OptumCare California is looking for an Accounting Manager to lead Corporate Accounting functions in its Inland Empire office. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited, to the following:
  • Mentor, coach, train and develop accounting staff
  • Build employee morale, motivation and loyalty and foster a team-like environment
  • Provide support to the Accounting Director
  • Lead the month-end close process for functional areas including SG&A, Accounts Payable, Group Practice Accounting and Cash Management; ensure that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely as well as analyzing and reviewing financial statements and variances
  • Review and approve monthly journal entries and supporting schedules prepared by the accounting supervisors
  • Review account reconciliations and supporting schedules within designated functional areas, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and Sarbanes - Oxley control requirements
  • Prepare monthly trended SG&A report and variance analysis; collaborate with the FP&A team in explaining variances to forecasts, budgets and prior periods by researching activity drivers
  • Review new contracts and new initiatives, assess financial impact, summarize accounting treatment and provide guidance to accounting staff
  • Execute special projects within functional areas
  • Proactively identify issues and implement process improvements to streamline accounting and system-related processes
  • Develop, prepare, and maintain documentation pertaining to business processes and systems operations
  • Provide documentation for year-end audit process
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc schedules, statements, reports and analytics as necessary
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required; active status preferred
  • 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Experience successfully managing multiple requests, assessing priorities, and achieving solutions under deadlines
  • Extensive experience with general ledger functions and the month-end / quarter-end / year-end close processes
  • In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and senior management to drive sound business decisions
  • Advanced Microsoft applications skills (Excel, Word, Access)
  • Advanced analytical and information gathering skills; ability to evaluate and prioritize detailed data
  • Ability to develop and improve processes and provide alternative recommendations to issues within areas of responsibility

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA
  • Experience with Hyperion Smartview / Essbase, PeopleSoft, BlackLine
  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
