Lead Database Specialist - BigData noSQL SRE

Role Value Proposition:

MetLife is seeking a Lead Data Administrator & SRE to assist in managing large scale 7x24x365 clusters. The successful candidate will have a track record of operational excellence managing large scale production databases utilizing one or more of the following (Hadoop, HBase, MongoDB, Splunk). This position will work closely with the existing Data administration team to provide support in our non-production and production environments. This individual will work closely with our application development teams to design, develop and implement new enhancements and database applications. The ideal candidate will be technically savvy, with excellent communication skills and possess the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with business and technology partners. A passion for technology with a proven track record of implementing new technology and features is a must. Ambition to learn is a must. Well-rounded skill set including multiple scripting languages and automation tools. Experience in an Agile/DevOps environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Site Reliability Engineering
  • Scripting, self-service and automation skills
  • Install/upgrade Hadoop big data platform and implement security for Hadoop big data platform
  • Install/Upgrade MongoDB's in on-prem and in cloud (Containers)
  • Periodically review the new patches; design and develop new tools for process improvements; prepare SOPs for product installations, upgrades and any other new process
  • setup best practices for monitoring;
  • Analyze Hardware, Software requirements for the projects; assist Build team with environment requirements
  • Design and Develop new processes for better maintenance of the environments; Help Application and Operations team to troubleshoot the performance issues
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to support a 7x24x365 environment

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years of related experience with 2+ in Big Data, Splunk and NoSQL/MongoDB
  • Unix/Database Administration experience in Hadoop big data/MongoDB platform
  • Experience in Hadoop software installs and upgrades
  • Experience in building dashboards and self-service capabilities
  • Experience in Predictive analytics
  • Shell Scripting, Python and experience in working with Linux platform
  • Strong in troubleshooting skills for performance issues and implementing the solutions
  • Needs to be good team player and ability to work independently
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer science, related field
