Department Overview

In MSI's access control division (openpath), our mission is to improve your workday with smart office technology at your front door. We are looking for candidates who can help us build, scale and innovate as we develop our industry leading platform for access control and office automation. Strong analytical and software skills are a must in order to join our team, and we are particularly seeking candidates with experience and skills in multiple technologies, in order to contribute broadly to our team-centric approach to product development.

Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and talented software engineer with machine learning focus with a particular interest in working on video and vision. As part of our access control team you will work alongside scientists and engineers to implement, deploy and maintain systems that will directly impact users in the public safety and commercial domains in the form of products and services that make use of access control and video security. This role requires skills in working with both science and engineering tools and environments to train models and realize them in working demonstrations and production.

More specifically this involves:
  • Implementing and improving our video pipelines for access control, live viewing and video AI
  • Developing modeling tools, training recipes and prototypes utilizing programming skills in Python and C/C++.
  • Developing and maintaining streaming services on IoT devices and cloud services
  • Analyzing field data in order to identify areas of possible improvement or enhancement of the system.
  • Presenting and discussing ideas and results within the team and with internal stakeholders (product/project management, engineering etc.).
  • Working and integrating with third-party video and video AI services and models


As part of the team, you will develop and implement services on IoT devices to provide video and audio services empowered by backend cloud services. Our team is involved in the entire development life cycle - including, building algorithms, designing APIs, integrating with different cloud service providers and production deployment and maintenance. Desired Background/Knowledge/Skills
  • Graduate degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering or a relevant field
  • Strong scripting and programming skills in Python (and C/C++)
  • Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, complexity analysis, data structures, problem solving and diagnosis
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and basic knowledge of networking fundamentals
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Dependable written and oral communication skills

Graduate degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering or a relevant field plus 2+ years of experience
