We are seeking Data Engineers who will be a part of a team that’s building new analytical and machine learning tools and frameworks to exploit advantages in the latest developments in cloud computing. The Product & Experience Delivery team is embarking on a new effort designed to address the growing needs of our Capital One associates. Associates want to feel connected with their company culture, be excited about their work, and have the insights and tools to be successful. We are looking for a Manager, Data Engineering, to build and run a new Employee Experience Platform (EXP) that will examine the employee journey and deliver software and insights to make it better. This role will be responsible for defining the technical foundation of the platform and establishing a strong engineering culture. The ideal candidate must be an experienced team leader with a proven history of shipping early stage products.

What You’ll Do:
  • Manage a team of developers with deep experience in machine learning and full stack systems that is embarking on the creation of an entirely new Employee Experience Platform from the ground up
  • Collaborate with digital product managers, software engineers, and data scientists to deliver powerful data-driven insights about employee productivity and well-being, empowering Capital One associates to do their best work helping millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment
  • Utilize technologies such as Python, Terraform, Airflow, Elasticsearch, Snowflake, REST API, AWS, S3, Spark, and PySpark to develop data infrastructure and pipelines
  • Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community
  • Perform unit tests and conduct reviews with other team members to make sure your code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and effectively tuned for performance


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in application development
  • At least 2 years of experience in big data technologies (Cassandra, Accumulo, HBase, Spark, Hadoop, HDFS, AVRO, MongoDB, or Zookeeper)
  • At least 2 years of people management experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • 2+ years of experience managing full stack developers
  • 7+ years of experience in application development
  • 3+ year experience working on streaming data applications (Spark Streaming, Kafka, Kinesis, and Flink)
  • 2+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or another public cloud service
  • 2+ years of experience with Ansible / Terraform
  • 3+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices
  • 3+ years of experience with NoSQL implementation (Elasticsearch, Mongo, Cassandra)
  • 4+ years of experience in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, JavaScript, Shell)
  • 4+ years of experience developing software solutions to solve complex business problems
  • 3+ years of experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting
