Summary of Job Duties:

The Sam M. Walton College of Business invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Information Systems department to begin August 2022. The Assistant Professor is expected conduct research suitable for publication in top tier journals and to teach three courses per year (the normal annual teaching load is three courses for all research active faculty). The courses taught could be a mix of graduate and undergraduate courses, and a mix of face-to-face and online courses, as needed. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience; benefits are competitive. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must be Scholarly Academic per AACSB accreditation standards which includes completion of a doctorate in information systems or a closely related field, prior to the position start date, from a nationally or internationally accredited university
  • Candidates should demonstrate clear promise of research potential based on the quality of their research and their ability to publish in top tier journals (as documented by a current "pipeline of research")
  • Candidates should also demonstrate promise of teaching excellence (provide course/teacher evaluations for recent courses taught)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated record of publishing in leading information systems journals, such as MISQ, ISR, JMIS and JAIS and prior experience or interest in teaching courses in enterprise resource planning (ERP), blockchain, database, business analytics, and cybersecurity teaching (documented by evidence of research publications, grants, and course/teacher evaluations for recent years)
  • Industry experience will be viewed favorably

The Information Systems Department: The department has ten tenured or tenure-track faculty members (including four professors who hold positions with endowments), in addition to six teaching/clinical faculty members, four full-time instructors, and several part-time instructors. The department is ranked in the top 5 departments in the world in the AIS-8 journals, both for the last 3-year period (#4 in 2018-2020) and the last 5-year period (#5 in 2016-2020). Faculty research interests are diverse and include behavioral research (management, adoption, use, and impacts of technology at individual, organizational, or societal levels) and economics-oriented research (financial impacts of IT, usually based on extensive panel data). Additionally, the departmental faculty is one of the only in the world to include a AIS LEO award winner, a Decision Sciences Institute Lifetime Distinguished Educator, an IEEE Fellow, and three AIS Fellows, and faculty have received numerous other accolades from major professional societies.

The Information Systems Department has an active research-oriented Ph.D. program, a Master of Information Systems program, Master of Applied Business Analytics program, Graduate Certificates, and a BSBA major in Information Systems. The department has a world-class Enterprise Systems program that gives our students experience with industrial-strength technology systems and enterprise-level databases, thanks to more than $200 Million in gifts from our technology platform partners including IBM, Microsoft, SAP and Teradata. Enterprise Systems also hosts a number of databases including Acxiom, Dillard's, Nielsen, Tyson Foods and Sam's Club and receives support from prominent companies such as J. B. Hunt Transport, Tyson Foods and Walmart. The department is also home to the Blockchain Center of Excellence, launched in 2018 by the Governor of the State of Arkansas. The BCoE's mission is to make the Sam M. Walton College of Business an academic leader in education and research on blockchain-enabled technologies for digital ecosystems.
