Scientist

Scientist, High-Throughput Protein Production

Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) High-Throughput Protein Production (HTP) group is seeking a highly motivated logical scientist with experience in mammalian cell culture, protein purification, and molecular biology to manage and perform transient antibody expressions, from hundreds to thousands of proteins per week. The candidate will play a critical role in a core group that is responsible for high-throughput cloning, expression & purification of hundreds of antibodies (microgram-to-milligram scale) and be an advocate for utilizing various automation platforms.

The candidate will be responsible for high throughput protein expression, expression titer quantitation, transfection harvest using an automated platform, microscale expression/purification/quantitation/normalization, propagating mammalian cells lines, recording results in the BMD database and electronic laboratory notebooks, as well as interacting with project teams. The candidate will contribute to group-wide deliverables, work on several projects simultaneously, and present results and updates at group, project, and departmental meetings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • High-throughput automated antibody transfection, expression titer assay, transfection harvest. microscale purification & quantification, and protein normalization using liquid handling automation
  • Optimization of the automated processes throughout the HTP workflow
  • Mammalian cell culture, cell seeding, and managing master cell banks
  • Managing the expression database and planning weekly transfection experiments
  • Tracking expression batches using Genedata Biologics Software, as well as record keeping using electronic laboratory notebooks
  • Close interaction with protein engineering project teams to plan and coordinate protein production
  • Regular review of literature to m aintain knowledge of scientific trends and industry processes, advance molecular biology and protein production methods
