HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I to support theMilitary HIV Research Program (MHRP)located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR)in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to MHRP.

HJF is seeking a Research Assistant to support the US Military HIV Research Program, located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, MD. The incumbent will assist in the technical execution of research projects in support of the goals and objectives of the B Cell Biology Core. The ideal candidate will provide basic and technical laboratory support to senior staff conducting studies on the role of humoral immunity, viral pathogenesis and vaccine development.

Responsibilities:
  1. Performs laboratory research tasks, including but not limited to, molecular cloning, mammalian and bacterial cell culture, protein purification and ELISAs. (60%)
  2. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records and records of experimental procedures; provides basic data analysis and interpretation. (10%)
  3. Assists in high throughput binding and neutralizing antibody assays using liquid handling robotics. (10%)
  4. Prepares buffers, reagents and common use stocks as needed. (10%)
  5. Provides quality control, troubleshooting and the maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment. (10%)
  6. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong organization and analytical skills; Ability to keep detailed and complete records; Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and a willingness to learn; Knowledge of standard laboratory and technical skills; ability to follow general instructions; Ability to work comfortably in a biosafety level 2 laboratory with HIV+ specimens; Familiarity with cell culture, ELISA, PCR, sterile technique, or other assays desirable; Computer skills including proficiency in Excel.

Minimum Education:Bachelor's degree required for this position.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements:Minimum of 0-2 years of experience required for this position.

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
