Manager External Supply Chain

Amgen has a new opportunity for a Supply Chain Manager for our External Supply, Performance Excellence & Resiliency group, Operational Excellence team, in Thousand Oaks, CA.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who, under minimal guidance, will be responsible for leading all aspects of key initiatives and projects across multiple business functions in support of our Operational Excellence program.

This role will enable business areas/plants to improve efficiency by reducing rework and waste through the use and application of Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies. The role will report to Supply Chain Sr. M anager .

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Articulates vision and identifies strategic objectives partnering with CDMO & RMD site leads and stakeholders
  • Partner with External Supply leaders to drive continuous improvement and build robust business processes and relationships with CDMO & RMD suppliers.
  • Leverages Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles and tools to institutionalize continuous improvement mindset and practices among External Supply cross functional group s
  • Facilitate or support in ex e cut ing OE activities , such as Root Cause Analysis , Lessons Learned, Lean Transformation , Visual Management, Daily Management Systems , Mistake-Proofing, Standard Work , Kaizen , Value Stream Mapping, Gemba Walk, and 5S
  • Lead with clear accountability for results in issue resolution/problem solving to ensure supply with quality, efficiency , cost effectiveness , and agility
  • Ensure visual management with metrics is in place to measure, track and communicate the performance of the External Supply group s , CDMOs and suppliers.
  • Identifies ways via Voice of Customer (VOC) and data analytics to improve business processes to deliver product with the highest quality, lowest cost and shortest lead time
  • Develops business transaction standards and resource m odels to identify gaps and devi se countermeasures remediate them strategically
  • Provides day-to-day OE teaching, coaching , and mentoring to individuals and teams to overcome challenges and deliver results
  • Execute against deliverables for risk management, operations excellence and other Operations initiatives.


Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree OR
  • Master's degree in engineering, business management or life science & 2 years of experience in operations / life science industryOR
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business management or life science & 4 years of experience in operations / life science industryOR
  • Associate degree in engineering, business management or life science & 10 years of experience in operations / life science industryOR
  • High school diploma / GED & 12 years of experience in operations / life science industry


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree (Science, Engineering, MBA) in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management or other engineering discipline & 2 years of Operational Excellence related experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries
  • 5 years of experience in Industrial Engineering and/or Operational Excellence related roles , such as Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt
  • Minimal 2 years' experience in a highly regulated business environment
  • Leader with a demonstrated ability to develop and work in a high-performing environment
  • Experience in applying Lean Six Sigma tools such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Visual Controls, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen, Mistake-Proofing, Standard Work , Gemba Walk and Daily Management Systems
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate across various parts of the organization
  • Adept in breaking down complex issues to enable prompt decision-making
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, and use sound judgment to draw conclusions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while delivering quality results. Handle responsibilities and priorities and tasks under minimal supervision
  • Problem solving: Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
