The purpose of the internship is to provide meaningful professional hands-on experience to students with proven academic performance and leadership potential. Abbott Puerto Rico seeks for students majoring in Engineering fields into this internship program based on business need. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.

Abbott Puerto Rico offers assignments located at Arecibo, Puerto Rico or Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. The interns will have an opportunity to work in one of the following:

COOP Student - Engineering

• Support the line engineer in responsibilities associated to line output, safety, yield and quality.

• May be responsible for line related changes and generation of Change Orders (COs).

• Assignment of projects related to continuous improvement on the manufacturing line.

• Generation of simple changes in LHRBMs.

• Coordination of product builds.

• Support qualification and validation activities.

COOP Student - Facilities

• Develop and implements solutions to equipment downtime problems in manufacturing area. • Solve engineering problems and recommends corrective or alternative actions.

• Perform root cause evaluation for failed equipment critical components.

• Improve maintenance strategies and equipment components to ensure equipment uptime.

COOP Student - Quality

• Support other quality engineers in implementing corrective/preventive actions, as applicable. • Metric management and data automation using Excel and/or Power BI.

• May be responsible for line-related changes and generation of Change Orders (COs).

• May be responsible for short-term continuous improvement projects (Process Monitoring, Data Integrity, etc.).

• Support qualification and validation activities.

COOP Student - BEx

• Support productivity, quality, process efficiency, space utilization, standardization and cycle time improvement efforts utilizing Lean, Six Sigma and DMAIC problem solving, among others.

• Identify opportunities and support the incorporation of appropriate Lean tool usage such as 6S, time studies, line balancing, standard work and material flow into the daily functions of the manufacturing lines under the Lean/Six Sigma methodology.

• Assume leadership role in high profile projects and system roll outs resulting from BEx initiatives.

• Support implementation and sustainability of the AV Operating System.

• Support BEx Team in implementing strategic initiatives at AVPR aligned with Site and Divisional Goals.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Engineering (3rd year +)

• Strong academic performance (GPA 3.00+)
• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in English language
