Plant Reliability Manager

Job Description

The New York Times is looking for a Reliability Engineering Manager for our Printing Facility in College Point, NY. You will report directly to the Director of Maintenance and Engineering, and work with the Maintenance and Production departments to identify and diagnose machine failures, develop engineering solutions and enhancements, and lead collaboration and teams across departments.

  • You will identify the reliability requirements for assets to increase plant productivity, maximize reliability performance in a sustainable way, and to capture opportunities for us to improve processes while reducing total cost.
  • Run engineering projects from conception through deployment, including documentation and staff training.
  • Lead the RCFA and RCM processes within our maintenance organization to ensure appropriate changes to the PM/ PdM program or plant modifications are made which improve reliability and reduce avoidable maintenance costs.
  • Modify PLC code and HMI screens, where necessary, to implement performance optimization and diagnostic capabilities of plant equipment.Communicate at all steps, and remain on-site to ensure production readiness.
  • Modify existing SCADA systems to incorporate new equipment and enhance user experience.
  • Train site personnel in the reliability work processes to ensure continued understanding of reliability improvement efforts.
  • Propose replacement projects based on asset health and production considerations.
  • Monitor spare parts and consumable usage to identify savings opportunities.
  • Assign tasks, review work, and direct staff while ensuring goals are met within established timelines.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner following established operating procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned or required.

  • Can work extended hours and provide phone support during off hours.
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, technical operations management or a related discipline and three or more years of professional experience in reliability engineering. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Will coordinate workloads and schedule staff to meet established milestones.
  • Experience in Allen Bradley and B&R PLC programming, RSView HMI screen development, RSView and iFix SCADA systems, Allen Bradley drives (Powerflex, 1336, Kinetix Servos), Rexroth drives
  • Experience with OPC data collection or equivalent
  • The ability to identify issues, analyze data and develop creative solutions to a variety of unusually complex matters of diverse scope and nature.
  • Document, report, and present findings to a variety of audiences including senior management.
  • Guide all levels of employees, including senior managers.
  • The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Excel expertise, especially with pivot tables and data analysis
  • Read and understand engineering drawings
  • Understanding of Predictive and Preventive maintenance practices
  • Have working and practical knowledge of multiple condition asset monitoring technologies
  • Well versed in multiple RCFA processes.
  • Coordinate and accomplish multiple tasks.
  • Proven and demonstrated working knowledge of reliability process and activities.
  • Parts management experience with store rooms and inventory management

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification
  • Experience managing capital project and capital project budget
