Senior Delivery Manager – Enterprise Integrations

Job Description

The ability to effectively capture, manage and analyze complex data is critical to Biogen’s strategy. While the company has extensive capabilities and resources in relevant areas, they are distributed across the organization – both within and outside of IT. The Data Engineering and Analytics (DEA) team operates as the “hub” in a “hub and spoke” federated model where they collaborate with distributed stakeholder groups (the “spokes”) to enable their specific priorities while establishing common enterprise-wide capabilities across information management and delivery competencies and platforms. DEA has been established to enable Biogen to move beyond legacy ways of implementing solutions and eliminate siloed thinking & activity as it relates to information management and delivery. This central team focusing across all of Biogen, will deliver “Next-Gen Value” by establishing core capabilities needed to effectively manage and exploit data as an enterprise asset.

As a key role within Enterprise Integrations pillar under Data Engineering and Analytics (DEA) organization, this Senior Delivery Manager - Enterprise Integration will be reporting to the Head of Enterprise Integrations and collaborate with the Functional Lead IT Team, Enterprise Architecture, Build Team, Solution Providers, IT Quality, Project Managers and the business users to plan, define and execute integration solution development related activities.

This person will also participate in driving Biogen’s next generation Integration architectures across the Biogen enterprise in conjunction with other key DEA architects. This includes both exploring and driving new architectures in conjunction with stakeholders and be responsible for architecture and delivery for specific Integration projects.

There are three primary focus areas for this role:
  • Integration Architecture / Technical Leadership: This role is fully responsible for developing architecture, providing technical leadership for all the Systems/Applications Integrations solutions, within PO&T functional area. It is also responsible for bringing in next-generation Integration principles and processes to Biogen to elevate and improve our overall Enterprise Integration methodologies collaborating with the other architects/delivery managers within the team. Exploring these architectures for the DEA team, creating enterprise standards, and advocating / evangelizing them with other Biogen IT and Integrations teams is key to this role.
  • Integration Project Delivery: This role is fully responsible for planning, estimating for the projects and technically leading the delivery team primarily made of contract resources to design, develop and enhance Integration, solutions.
  • Integration Platform Engineering / Management: Fully owning one or more key platforms (e.g. Middleware, API Management, Managed File Transfer, Data Integration) that constitute Enterprise Integration platform, this role will be responsible for strategy, roadmap, planning, budgeting, engineering for that ensuring it is in alignment with functional and business needs of Biogen.

Key Responsibilities:

Integration Architecture / Technical Leadership
  • Develop and own the Integration architecture for projects in adherence to the established best practices / standards / patterns within Biogen / industry and get it aligned with Enterprise Architecture
  • Articulate design considerations, trade-offs, benefits, and recommendations for the Integration architecture with scalability and supportability in mind
  • Lead functional specification and detailed technical design and ensure alignment with the high-level design / logical design approved by Enterprise Architecture
  • Integration Project Delivery:
  • Ensure that new Integration projects align to an overall DEA vision
  • Lead team of internal technical resources to perform analysis, design, configuration, development, testing, and deployment activities for Integration solutions
  • Ensure internal team is properly staffed to meet current and future project demands
  • Support analysis and estimation of project pipeline.
  • Manage budget, issues, risks, quality, and schedule for technical delivery
  • Accountable for all development, technical testing, deployment plan, and transition to Support organization
  • Oversee Integration solution development to ensure the delivery of highly scalable and secure solutions that are optimized for performance
  • Accountable for overall delivery timeliness and solution quality
  • Manage third-party system integrators/vendors

Integration Platform Engineering / Management:
  • Ability to envision Integration capability needs and bring those capability to address the needs
  • Fully own one or more Integration components and develop strategy, roadmap, plan
  • Ability to engineer Integration components and successfully operationalize
  • Clear understanding of GxP requirements
  • Actively play advisory role to other teams implementing solutions in that space
  • Ensure alignment with Biogen technical standards and guiding principles (EA Governance, Infrastructure)
  • Aware of both technology and industry trends, lead technical assessments of vendor products or emerging technologies
  • Lead engineering teams to ensure quality delivery


Key Experience:
  • 12+ years’ experience in the Integration arena
  • IT Project Management including methodology, tools, and reporting
  • IT Technical management experience
  • Experience in handling complex Integration projects
  • Well versed in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) / API concepts and other key Integration technologies
  • Hands on implementation experience with Middleware and one or more of other key Integration platforms (e.g. API Management, Managed File Transfer, Data Virtualization, Data Integration etc.,)
  • Ability to work across a wide organization to achieve results based on technical vision
  • Cross-system and full-stack architecture experience and awareness
  • Architectural expertise across the Integration design principles
  • Ability to communicate well with both business owners and technical staff, at the appropriate level
  • Experience working with outsourced service providers
  • Biotech / Life Sciences experience is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with Computer Science or related degree preferred.
  • Related advanced technical certifications and/or degrees preferred
