About This Role

The successful candidate will be an expert in analytical sciences in the Next Generation Analytical Sciences team which supports project teams in all pharmaceutical modalities at Biogen (Proteins, ASO, Small Molecule, Gene Therapy). This individual will be focused on developing new and emerging technologies within the analytical sciences that address department objectives and strategies for shaping future pharmaceutical operations. Theywill be involved with the development of novel control strategies for process analysis and manufacturing (i.e., Process Analytical Technology), and will support an advancing data infrastructure. They must demonstrate capability of designing meaningful experiments that can inform business decisions. They areexpected to quickly develop expertise in new technology. As such we are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate a deep understanding and expertise in an emerging analytical technique or field relevant to drug development, characterization or manufacturing. We are seeking candidates with strong skills in data analysis, such as statistical methods, data modeling, design of experiments, automation, systems integration, or scientific programming.

  • Work in cross-functional teams as an analytical expert to support drug development and manufacturing
  • Create new capabilities in the analytical sciences through the assessment of emerging technology
  • Design experiments relevant to the development and transfer of analytical methods and systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on core and emerging technology
  • Present project updates and results to key stakeholders as well as in department forums
  • Effectively engage with contractors and vendors to direct external development work
  • Author experimental records, SOPs, development reports, and external publications
  • Execute test methods in an efficient manner to support critical program work
  • Provide hands-on support in development labs with possible travel

Qualifications

Required Skills
  • Ph.D.in a Science or engineering field with a minimum of 0-3 years experience or Master'sDegree science or engineering fieldwith a minimum of 5+ years’ experience

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with inline sampling and testing systems (i.e. process analytical technology)
  • Deep understanding of chromatography (LC, GC, SEC)and/or spectroscopy (IR, NIR, Raman)systems
  • Applied knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) and Quality by Design (QbD)
  • Experience with multivariate(chemometric) modeling, advanced process control, machine learning, AI, digital twins
  • Experience with advanced data analysis in any common programming platform (Matlab or equivalent)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in the form of presentations and publications
  • Subject matter expert in an emerging analytical technique relevant to the pharma/biotech industry
