  • Provide leadership and technical expertise for packaging design and conversion technologies such as Blow molding, Injection molding & Paper substrates including associated equipment and molds.
  • Provides technical guidance and direction to suppliers & external engineering resources.
  • Provide technical leadership globally, from concept to design/development leading to commercialization of various Abbott packaging systems.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Plastic Molding processes, bottles, closures, injection molded components and associated equipment, molds, and best practices towards supplier management.
  • Lead the mold design, FAT and validation of molding manufacturing cells in accordance with division engineering best practices and procedures.
  • Drive Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) for assigned projects.
  • Apply Scientific Molding methodologies and design of experiment (DOE) tools and software to maximize process window.
  • Collaborates across divisions, on a global basis, to develop and apply Abbott Engineering standards & direct technical activities of significant projects, often working in conjunction with outside consultants.
  • Review plans for long-range strategic alignment & leverage knowledge of global regulatory requirements related to design and control of Packaging processes.
  • Research various cost-effective, alternative approaches to current processes.


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline
  • 8+ years' experience in a Technical role in a Product Manufacturing or Packaging environment.
  • Prefer prior experience in plastic molding technologies with focus on materials, process, equipment/molds, and mold technologies.
  • Subject Matter Expert level knowledge of relevant Plastic Packaging Processes
  • Subject Matter Expert level knowledge in one of the listed plastics molding disciplines
  • Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis
  • Proven record of achievement in technical and project leadership.
  • Ability to interact at all levels of the organization with proven influencing and negotiation ability
  • Acknowledged technical leadership
  • Uses comprehensive business acumen as well as technical knowledge.
  • Routinely provides analyses and technical advice to senior management on a global basis, often collaborating with outside consultants, technical counterparts from other Divisions and key vendors.
  • Responsible for design implementation that meets all functional, customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides discipline-specific technical mentoring for less-experienced members of staff.
