About the Role

The App Platforms team makes The New York Times the best place to make mobile apps. With the majority of our over 8M subscribers consuming much of their content through the Android and iOS apps, our goals to provide excellent mobile experiences for its users have never been higher. Our team centralizes the platforms that help the business accomplish their goals by increasing internal app product team efficiency.

We're looking for a product manager to develop strategy and build shared code and centralized core architectures for all NYT Android and iOS apps, helping teams focus on their unique goals. You will direct investments that allow our 10+ apps, including Cooking, Crossword, and News, to accelerate their part in the New York Times's mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

You will report to the Technical Director of Product, App Platforms

Responsibilities

Establish product strategy for our native platform efforts:
  • Set long-term vision with the team Technical Product Director, Engineering Managers, and senior engineers
  • Connect our platform work to journalistic and business goals
  • Articulate internal mobile development product team needs and opportunities
  • Analyze impact through rigorous qualitative and quantitative measurement


Build quickly and at high-quality:
  • Navigate competing opportunities and prioritize work for the longer term roadmap and for upcoming sprints
  • Adapt and accomplish the most important work despite challenges


Lead through collaboration and trust:
  • Continuously improve team processes
  • Foster a team environment where we treat our users and each other with empathy and respect


Partner with engineering to determine and deliver the highest impact work:
  • Work with a wide set of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical
  • Motivate and align those working on your projects across functions


Qualifications
  • Technical expertise in mobile development, either Android or iOS, ideally both
  • 3+ years of product management or relevant work experience
  • Experience with Agile software development methodology
