Scientist I, Research Genetically Engineered Mouse Models

Job Description

Scientist I, Translational In Vivo Sciences

About This Role

The Genetically Engineered Mouse Models (GEMMs) group is seeking a motivated scientist to (1) oversee GEMM breeding projects across multiple neurological disease areas and (2) develop novel mouse model platforms to interrogate drug delivery to the central nervous system and muscle. Accordingly, the individual is expected to interact regularly with contract research organizations (CROs) and actively perform in vivo research. Due to the cross-functional nature of this role, this position will provide the candidate an opportunity to collaborate with multiple program teams and participate in novel platform initiatives.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as the liaison between research units and external breeding vendors to oversee GEMM breeding projects, and ensure that resource distribution is aligned with company priorities and the annual operating budget.
  • Contribute to developing and running novel in vivo bioluminescent imaging models to monitor drug delivery and biodistribution.

Who you are

The ideal candidate will thrive in Biogen’s environment if the individual is driven to prioritize data reliability to drive key business decisions. We seek someone who has an organizational mindset to make processes more efficient, yet also has the flexibility and creativity to think outside the box for solutions. Finally, the nature of our group is such that all our projects are collaborative, and thus if you enjoy working in different styles of group settings, this position offers many of those opportunities.

    Required Qualifications
    • PhD and at least two years of post-grad research in Neurobiology, Genetics, or Molecular Biology.
    • Hands-on experience and deep expertise in mouse genetics and breeding.
    • Experience with mouse surgical techniques.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage in scientific conversations across multiple disease areas.

    Preferred Experience
    • Designing, generating, and validating novel GEMMs.
    • In vivo bioluminescence imaging.
    • Familiarity with muscle biology and/or blood-brain barrier biology.
