HJF is seeking a Research Physician to support the Infectious Disease Clinical Research Program (IDCRP) located at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in Honolulu, HI. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to IDCRP. US citizenship required.

The physician will provide scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the identified program. Responsible for the treatment of patients during the progression of their disease and their participation in clinical research programs within established institutional policies and procedures; ensuring that all necessary steps are followed for safety and regulatory compliance; and for assuring accuracy of complex clinical documentation on patients' records, maintaining confidentiality. May provide direction for the execution of clinical research programs. This position may also be referred as the PI or site lead or have a role as an Assistant or Associate Professor.

Responsibilities:
  1. Designs, directs, and participates in clinical research protocols in conjunction with active duty investigators, research physicians, and other scientists; develops network of associate investigators, collaborators, and partners at MTF and regionally.
  2. Directs and participates in the submission of clinical research protocols and other documentation to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), local human research protection program, sponsors, monitors, and/or Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  3. Provides evaluation and treatment of medical conditions, as appropriate to medical license, specialty board certification, and clinical privileges; maintains active clinical privileges at assigned MTF; provides clinical research education, training, and mentorship to trainees and others.
  4. Leads site IDCRP team; monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of the clinical research program; supervises and oversees site staff; proactively communicates with departmental and other leadership at MTF and IDCRP PCC; provides reports, materials, and briefings as required.
  5. Analyzes clinical data. Prepares program status reports to the institution, regulatory agencies, and sponsors of the clinical research programs; prepares scientific abstracts and papers for presentation at local and national meetings and for publication in medical and scientific periodicals.
  6. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine and the procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks; knowledge of medical science and the development of clinical research programs; experience (knowledge) in the design of clinical research trials; ability to communicate effectively; ability to make effective presentations and publish; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Education: Doctoral degree in Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine or related field required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience required.

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Licensure to practice medicine within the continental United States; Board certified or board eligible for certification in the specialty associated with the clinical research program.

Work Environment: Set within a medical and clinical work environment.

Background/Security: U.S. citizenship required; eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier III Investigation/ Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
