Our Gaithersburg, Maryland facility creates life-changing medicines for people around the world. This campus employs more than 3,500 experts in our field and is only a short drive from Washington, DC. This modern and vibrant scientific campus is the home of R&D and Oncology in the US. The Gaithersburg site offers a variety of amenities to help boost productivity and help keep our employees happy and healthy. This is where you'll find newly-designed, activity-based workspaces to suit a variety of working styles while increasing collaboration between teams.

The Animal Sciences and Technologies department supports animal care and welfare for all animals being used in research at the Gaithersburg site. We play a vital role in developing transformative medicines by conducting animal studies that support all stages of drug discovery and development across all therapy areas and ensure the delivery of safe and effective treatments to patients.

You'll work independently and as a part of a great team while safely conducting hands-on husbandry duties with multiple laboratory animal species.
• Operate cage wash equipment to include a robotic arm, rack washers, bedding dispenser, and autoclave
• Maintain the animal facility in a clean and orderly condition.
• Receive, quarantine, and remove animals as required.
• Change different types of IVC caging using an aseptic technique.
• Perform daily health checks. Evaluate the health status of animals. Communicate concerns with team members.
• Use digital resources (MS Office, Outlook, Teams) for log keeping and communication.

Essential skills for the role
• HSD or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience in laboratory animal research setting
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the job to include lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, grasping, reaching, crouching, exposure to heart, and prolonged periods of time working on your feet.
• Knowledge and use of protective equipment and safety procedures related to the possible exposure to dusts, viruses, tissues, chemicals, fumes, vapors, and mists that could potentially affect the health of the employee
• Willing to perform husbandry tasks for animals exposed to BSL2 agents.
• Basic computer skills - Microsoft Office, Outlook
• Good communication skills, competent in written and spoken English

Desirable for the role
• Certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science at the ALAT level
• Knowledge and use of protective equipment and safety procedures related to the possible exposure to dusts, viruses, tissues, chemicals, fumes, vapors, and mists that could potentially affect the health of the employee
• Knowledge of normal animal behavior for mouse, rat, and hamster species
• Knowledge of hazardous and infectious material handling
