The HII Cybersecurity and IT organization is on a mission to maintain customer trust and reduce risk by relentlessly protecting data and safeguarding the operational integrity across our large portfolio of mission critical services. This role is integral to leading and transforming our security program to keep up with threat landscape. The candidate is expected to have broad practical implementation knowledge of designing and running information security programs, building, and scaling large security capabilities, and working across organizational boundaries and with executive leadership to shape the security strategy for a top 10 US Defense Contractor to ensure cybersecurity compliance and cyber risk mitigation enterprise wide. The HII Cybersecurity and IT organization values strong cross-team communication & collaboration, ability to network and integrate across the Huntington Ingalls Industries eco-system to inject value to the company at large, and create meaningful lasting relationships with our business partners, stakeholders, and executive leaders.

  • Be the divisional security leader and representative for the Cybersecurity and IT organization including policy and standards interpretation, controls, and security strategies.
  • Assist in defining HII Cybersecurity and IT organization long-term security objectives and strategies, informed by enterprise-wide goals at the enterprise level but tailored for the unique dimensions of security risk that HII Divisions may face; be able translate those into practical execution and plans to deliver against them.
  • Lead transformation of HII Cybersecurity team to realize greater effectiveness and impact across the various security areas; programs, engineering, assurance, and compliance.
  • Define Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), strategic risk indicators, and metrics/scorecards to understand current health and drive insights into future focus areas for the team/enterprise before issues occur/risks are realized. Surface insights to engineering teams, leadership, and Cybersecurity and IT senior leadership team, as needed, to update and influence.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience OR Master's degree and 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience of security industry experience required with deep understanding of enterprise environments, cloud technologies, and cyber security
  • 5+ years of previous management experience with a Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and develop high performing teams
  • Bachelors degree in computer science (MIS, information security, or related field strongly preferred) or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep technical/engineering experience that can engage with technical/engineering leaders to solve hard problems, but can work with and translate that to a business leadership and executive audience
  • Well versed in modern security principles, approaches, methods, and frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
  • Manage the testing, deployment and operational functions for all the security solutions and controls within the environment. Develop run books, perform health checks, and recommendations are provided
  • Partner with Incident Response in ongoing departmental initiatives, ensuring design and building of security solutions across endpoint, network and cloud is completed. Partner with Threat Intelligence and Incident Response teams to ensure proper life-cycle management of security controls as they map to current and future threats
  • Provide Oversight and direction to the team and senior management on areas of improvement to ensure a continuous improvement process takes place that performs assessments, changes and validations of said improvements.

  • Lead the team in maintaining a working knowledge set according to the technological investments made in the security space in relation to the threat landscape as it relates to current and emerging trends.
