Position Purpose
This is a universal job description meant to capture some of the primary duties of this role that are common across functions or divisions. The Medical Science Liaison Director (MSL Associate Director) will serve as a liaison to the medical/scientific community and will be responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining relationships with medical experts in the Respiratory therapeutic area within the specified geographic area of coverage.

Major Accountabilities
The Medical Science Liaison will ensure the appropriate dissemination of clinical and scientific information regarding marketed and pipeline compounds in a timely, ethical and customer-focused manner. The MSL will implement clinical and educational strategies in collaboration with other Novartis colleagues for designated customers that include potential clinical trial site placement and sponsorships. The MSL will work to pair our key customer's educational and research needs with available Novartis resources and will provide the latest emerging data in response to specific healthcare professional inquiries.

Key Performance Indicators
The MSL is expected to have consistent local, regional (within specified territory) impact with a solutions-oriented approach in identifying big picture needs.
The MSL is expected to demonstrate strong strategic thinking and have an enterprise-wide mindset. He/she should be viewed as an established MSL leader and act as a mentor/coach to colleagues.
The MSL should have strong influencing skills and tangible examples of territory impact. This individual is expected to support and inspire colleagues and serve as a positive change agent.
Importantly, the MSL contributes to building high performing teams.

Minimum requirements

Ideal Background

Education: Terminal degree (MD, PhD or PharmD) or equivalent experience is preferred.

Experience: (MSL, Manager: 0-3 years’ experience; MSL, Associate Director: 3+ years’ experience; MSL Director: 7+ years’ experience)
The position will be filled at level commensurate with experience.

Previous experience in assigned or related therapeutic area is strongly preferred.
Strong clinical knowledge including pharmacotherapy, treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, medical expert engagement strategies, and FDA promotional guidelines, regulations, and ethical guidelines applied to the pharmaceutical industry is required.

Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills are required.

Ability to identify, network and partner with medical experts, including thought leaders, large group practices, medical directors, and pharmacy directors is required. Must be science oriented and be able to prioritize work effectively and autonomously.

The MSL must have a track record of success through collaboration and medical expert impact. It is also essential the MSL to have an innovative mindset and be comfortable and experienced using digital tools and platforms. The MSL must be able to successfully deal with ambiguity and support colleagues through times of change.
