Summary of Job Duties:

Online Student Support Graduate Assistant - Office of Graduate Student Support

(Reappointment for an additional year based on satisfactory performance.)

The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for:
1.\tAssisting in the planning and coordination of on sessions pertinent to graduate students as they encounter various aspects of writing during their academic experience, including successful academic writing, grant writing, editing.
2.\tCoordination and implementation of workshops, classroom presentations to help graduate students sharpen necessary skills for personal, academic, and professional success, with primary focus of graduate students enrolled in online programs.
3.\tActing as a team member for Office of Graduate Student Support to collaborate on other duties, as needs arise.

The Graduate Assistant will report to the Director of Graduate Student Support for the Graduate School and International Education, who will help the Graduate Assistant establish goals for the program and will provide leadership and guidance as needed to ensure the success of the program.

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours a week. The GA will perform duties at the Graduate School, as well as elsewhere on campus, as needed, to meet the goals of the program.

Master's stipend $15,000
MFA and Doctoral stipend $18,000

Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have an earned bachelors degree from an accredited academic institution and be admitted to the UofA Graduate School

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ideally, experience with research and research writing and tutoring and/or teaching experience, experience working with special student populations, including ESL students

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong writing skills and extensive experience writing at the graduate student level
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
