The Director, Federal Outreach is responsible is responsible for driving new business growth for Public Sector. Individual will be actively involved in community-based, grassroots, relationship-building with executive level leadership and with those in the community who can help influence the RFP outcome. This role is focused on cities, counties, schools and state government RFP opportunities. This individual helps manage and drives local market endorsements from our Public Sector and Labor customers and prospect. Effective collaboration and strong external relationship building are critical for success.

The preferred location for this role is California but will consider if you are located in Western half of the US. You will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Own the customer relationship and facilitate high level contacts and decision makers
  • Manage customer specific initiatives, which deliver value added services through the execution of client specific business plans
  • Coordinate and influence superior customer service delivery by developing and maintaining strong intercompany relationships
  • Develop and monitor client financial performance including renewal planning, negotiation and profitability levels
  • Consistently exceeds objectives for profitability and persistency
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert for products, service and technology aspects
  • Demonstrate communication and open enrollment expertise
  • Provide feedback to management and others to facilitate best practices on politically sensitive federal issues
  • Maintain a high level of healthcare industry knowledge as well as the federal workforce

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field
  • Sales insurance license maintained by law
  • Experience building and maintaining positive, constructive working relationships with senior level executives both internally and externally
  • Track record of successful sales and/or lobbying experience to the public sector including municipalities, school districts, higher education, and labor union customers
  • Solid consultative selling skills; sold healthcare products through direct sales or brokers
  • Demonstrated broad based knowledge of the industry, market trends and UHC
  • Demonstrated networking capabilities
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic business relationship development
  • Ability to maintain valid driver's license
  • Willingness to travel as required

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $90,000 to $175,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
