Abbott Diabetes Care's Manufacturing Engineering team currently has an exciting hiring opportunity for a Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer located at Buffalo Grove, IL.

The focus of the role is on radiation sterilization, microbiology, and packaging integrity for the Freestyle Libre flash glucose monitoring product. Experience in these fields is desirable, but not essential. A willingness to learn, grow and develop is critical.

The position is responsible for working with multiple stakeholders to develop, quality and provide ongoing technical support of cleanrooms, sterilization, and shipping processes to maintain operational excellence. The role provides the opportunity to tackle diverse technical subjects both internally within ADC and in conjunction with our third-party manufacturing and contract service providers. The role is ideally suited to an individual with excellent abilities to rapidly learn technical disciplines on the job and who relishes the challenge this brings.

Main Responsibilities
  • Initiates and completes technical activities leading to new or improved products or process, for current programs, next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company.
  • Prepares reports, publishes, and makes presentations to communicate findings.
  • Analyzes and solves problems from basic engineering principles, theories, and concepts through to a wide range of complex and advanced problems which require novel and new innovative approaches or a breakthrough in technology. Understands engineering principles theories, concepts, practices and techniques.
  • Develops one's knowledge in this field to become a recognized leader or authority in an area of specialization, and applies this knowledge in leadership roles in the company.
  • Incorporates business policies and procedures into task completion. Understands the business needs of the company and has knowledge of the customer needs of our business.
  • Help to identify and implement process improvements solutions to support the division to achieve its long-term goals.
  • Create a work environment that supports cross-functional team effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of Education and Work Experience.
  • At least 6+ years of relevant work experience with a demonstrated knowledge of general Engineering principals.
  • Good knowledge of design controls and regulations for medical device development, (ISO134851, ISO13485, FDA).
  • Strong technical experience in mechanical or chemical engineering with excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong understanding of processes and materials used in the development and manufacturing of medical devices.
  • Working in a development environment with a disciplined process/product development process.
  • Writing process/product requirements and design specifications.
  • Working on a development team with an emphasis on minimizing time to market.
  • Design for manufacture of low cost, high volume electronic products.
  • Development of processes in an FDA regulated environment with full understanding of GxP, ISO and medical device regulations.
  • Working in cross-functional team environments is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering or Business is preferred.
  • Ability to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Has a sound knowledge of various technical alternatives and their impact.
  • Highly experienced mechanical engineer with complex automation equipment, for example IMA, Sortimat, Mikron etc. May either come from machine building background or in manufacturing sector with experience of brining automation lines from start up to full efficiency.
