Engineering Specialist, Facilities Operations

Job Description

Atour Company's campus in Elkton, Virginia, weare seeking candidates for a Senior Specialistin Facilities Operations to manage and coordinate maintenance activities across a subarea of the organization including waste treatment, solvent recovery or Utilities to ensure activities are appropriately prioritized and conducted in a timely, efficient, and safe manner in partnership with Operations. The manufacturing facilityis located inthe Shenandoah Valley along the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains a short distance from the University of Virginia and James Madison University .

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their passion and technical skills as a member of a multidisciplinary team assisting in the operation ofpharmaceutical,biopharmaceutical,and vaccine product manufacturing facilities.


  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities between Maintenance and Operations to improve equipment and instrumentation uptime and drive streamlining of the maintenance activity timeline. Ensure close and clear communication with Maintenance and Operations Managers regarding scheduled maintenance activities as well as unplanned maintenance work and its associated priority
  • Manage and balance the prioritization of maintenance activities for the subarea assigned in partnership with the other Facilities subarea counterpart, Facilities Business Lead , Maintenance, and Planning to ensure Facilities Operations business needs are met
  • Coordinate scheduling and execution of equipment downtime, tie-ins, etc. with Operations and contractor(s) for capital project execution
  • Provide consistent communication regarding equipment issues and status to bridge across shifts and auxiliary teams
  • Maintain equipment criticality board daily and escalate issues appropriately
  • Act as liaison with reliability engineering to conduct appropriate testing and investigations | Coordinate with maintenance planning and predictive maintenance teams to ensure appropriate and optimized preventive and predictive maintenance plans and spare parts availability
  • Ensure complete understanding of high-risk work permit requirements to facilitate efficient and safe partnership between Maintenance and Operations
  • Function as Operations point of contact with Maintenance for execution of documentation required to return equipment to operation after maintenance activity is completed, collaborating with operators, Operations Manager, and Technical Operations
  • Participate in root cause analysis investigations for equipment and process related issues
  • Provide first-line equipment troubleshooting to the Operation's Manager coordinating necessary follow-up action with Technical Operations and Maintenance
  • Partner with Technical Operations and Reliability Engineering to evaluate equipment, component, instrumentation and process breakdowns to continuously improve process and equipment reliability

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma /GED and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Manufacturing, Maintenance or Military environments OR
  • Associate D egree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, or similar discipline) or related scientific field (chemistry, physics, math) and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in Manufacturing, Maintenance or Military environments OR
  • Bachelor Degree or higher in engineering (mechanical, chemical, or similar discipline) or related scientific field (chemistry, physics, math) and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in Manufacturing, Maintenance or Military environments.

Experience and Skills


  • Minimum two years of utilities, infrastructure, and/or wastewater experience
  • Troubleshooting equipment failures and resolving the issues
  • CMMS Plant Maintenance management system
  • Working in a cross-functional team environment and influencing others
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize many simultaneous assignments and quickly adapt to changes in business priorities
  • Ability to quickly address issues to develop solutions to minimizesafety, operational, andcompliance risk


  • Process Safety Management (PSM), Mechanical
  • SAP Plant Maintenance management system
  • Working in a cGMP environment
  • Interfacing with utilities, waste treatment, solvent recovery, and storm water monitoring systems
  • Regulated industry; such as pharmaceuticals, food, and or nuclear
