Senior Systems Engineer

POSITION PROFILE

 

The Sr. Systems Engineer responsibilities consist of design, implementation, maintenance, support and disaster recovery for various systems, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Systems, VMWare, Citrix, Netapp storage, Nutanix HCI, and Active Directory. In addition, the Engineer will help manage the full technical environment, including systems administration responsibilities across a wide array of technical services. This role also provides system administration services, and monitors systems and services for performance and connectivity. Other responsibilities include providing level 2 and 3 support to customer IT staff. 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages the environment and provides subject matter expertise for an enterprise class system (Messaging, ESX, Storage, Active Directory, SQL Administration).
  • Provides architecture, design and implementation support for complex system configurations.
  • Utilizes problem solving and troubleshooting skills in enterprise level environments, being able to logically step through issues and troubleshoot problems by thinking outside of the box and being creative with solutions.
  • Accommodates customer requirements and possesses a drive to provide a high level of customer service, which includes working a flexible schedule that can be dictated by enterprise support issues.
  • Works within a team environment, but also operates independently in the absence of strict guidance to correct issues and improve the environment, as appropriate.
  • Relates technical issues and requirements to business issues, and vice versa. Communicates these issues to non-technical internal associates and customers.
  • Provides general administration of various systems in the organization including, but not limited to, the messaging environment, compute and storage resources
  • Provides 3rd level support and assists with support incidents relating to issues with messaging (Exchange/M365/Lotus Notes) and related environments.
  • Acquires and maintains competent knowledge of relevant products, current support policies and methods of support delivery.
  • Researches, delivers and documents confident, accurate technical solutions to end users on a timely basis.
  • Provides assistance and guidance, acting as an escalation point for team members to resolve complex issues. Determines root cause and business impact of issues, reports issues and proposes solutions.
  • Prioritizes problem solutions effectively, based on business value, risk, urgency, and level of effort.
  • Completes complex projects with an advanced knowledge of company & organization policies, practices and procedures.
  • Maintains information technology systems with a regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Completes, and occasionally leads, complex projects as assigned by management.
  • Required to participate within an on-call schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline preferred.
  • Requires minimum of 6 years of experience with Microsoft operating systems, Storage and Infrastructure.
  • MCSE, VMware, Nutanix and Citrix certifications are encouraged
  • A+, Network+, Security+, MCSE, MCSA, MCITP:Server Administrator, MCITP:Enterprise Administrator, Microsoft M365 & Azure Certifications or equivalent hands on experience.
  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP certifications highly desired – relevant experience required
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced systems integrator or professional services consulting organization preferred.
  • Project Leadership Experience capable of managing multiple technical projects simultaneously with minimum oversight.
  • Experience with Routers, switches, Sophos, SonicWall and Cisco Firewalls (content filtering, IPS, IDS, advanced threat protection).
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of network routing protocols (RIP - IGRP - OSPF - EGP - EIGRP - BGP)
  • VMware and Hyper-V infrastructure expertise.
  • Azure and AWS Cloud Infrastructure platforms, portals and server migration experience required.
  • Citrix, RDS, VPN, 2FA, MDM, secure remote access platforms infrastructure implementation experience.
  • SAN knowledge (NetAPP, EMC), HCI knowledge (NetAPP, Nutanix, Scale, EMC).
  • Design and implementation experience with WANs and working with carrier service providers (ISP, MPLS, Layer 2/Layer 3 services, private fiber, SD-Wan).
  • Experience with high availability systems and networking design around virtualized infrastructure, offsite COLO
  • Experience with migrating between Microsoft Exchange server versions; ability to migrate from on premise Exchange to Office 365/M365.
  • Experience with implementing and utilizing backup solutions (ie, CommVault, BackupExec, Veeam, storage-based snapshots & replication).
  • Ability to document and present network designs using Visio
