Job Description

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications

0 Years with Bachelors in Science- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

This position is a waterfront engineering (field engineering) position where candidates will be supporting Submarine Fleet Support. This is a hands-on position where candidates will spend at least 20% of working hours on the ship or interacting with mechanics to resolve outstanding issues during the submarine construction process. Few examples of common issues include: welding, Non-Destructive-Testing requirements, pipe system out of tolerance, material failure analysis and machinery component discrepancies. Candidates should expect to be working in a construction environment on a daily basis. Candidates will be expected to review product drawings, ship-check as-built conditions of the product, interact with construction trades and then formulate technically sound engineering resolutions. No prior engineering work experience is required; however, candidates MUST possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to mechanics and other engineers.
