Weapon System Command & Control Test Engineer

Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an exceptional Test Engineer for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), known as the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Program as they acquire the WSC2 (Weapon System Command & Control) systems and components. To successfully accomplish this, the GBSD Program requires a Test Engineer with a willingness to lead, learn, and contribute in a fast-paced environment. The applicant must possess high energy and a strong motivation to make a difference. They must be comfortable working with changing priorities. The ability to switch tasks and multi-task with minimal disruption is a must.

This position will directly support the US Air Force GBSD Command and Launch (C&L) Division within the GBSD Program Office. Duties will include providing expert advice and support to GBSD leaders on all command & control fielding aspects throughout the acquisition cycle.

Specifically, this potential team member will be responsible for supporting the government customer by providing expert advice through reviews of developmental and operational test plans, test reports, and other test activities/documentation received from the GBSD Prime Contractor or the government's Test Team. Attendance at contractor test working groups/events and support/creation of independent government testing may also be required.

Additional responsibilities will include assisting in the review, and assessment of GBSD prime contractor design, documentation, architectures, and Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) products in order to meet GBSD acquisition requirements and timelines. Our team provides weapon system and lab architectures, concepts of operation, modeling, simulation, and plans for addressing command & control integration options. Our team includes existing staff with extensive expertise in the current Minuteman III weapon system and actively participates in ongoing studies and assessments for GBSD, the next generation system.
This is a rare opportunity to join a high-performing team within a large defense company with an extraordinary, positive culture and mission focus. In this position, you will provide direct support to a national security critical weapon system throughout engineering development, deployment and sustainment. You will become a trusted mission partner to the innovative, Digital Engineering-driven Air Force organization that will design, build, test, transition, and sustain the world's safest, most secure, and effective land-based nuclear deterrent, on-schedule. Do not miss this!

Why BAE Systems? BAE Systems is the third largest defense contractor in the world with an exceptional, mission-focused culture. The 800+ BAE Systems employees and sub-contractors located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah are closely aligned to the United States Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center. We support the Center in sustaining the existing LGM-30G Minuteman III (MM III) weapon system and acquiring its replacement, the LGM-35A Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) weapon system. We are a uniquely-valued mission partner delivering daily technical excellence and innovative solutions to our government customers. BAE Systems has earned accolades as a "Top Workplace" in Utah based on employee feedback for three consecutive years, earning special distinction for providing a healthy work-life balance for our valued employees. We strive very hard to ensure this is a great place to work!

Why Utah? You've got to see it to believe it! Utah is an amazing state with diverse geography, an eclectic culture and an exceptional quality of life. We are located north of Salt Lake City at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. The area offers an incredible range of outdoors pursuits across the seasons including hiking, climbing, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and world-class skiing at resorts that hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. The state is home to five amazing National Parks and an easy drive from two more; Grand Teton and, famously, the first National Park in the world, Yellowstone. The Salt Lake City area offers a vast array of cultural activities and businesses including multiple professional sports teams. It is a western states hub for exceptional, cutting-edge medical care with people traveling from across the region for a range of nationally renowned specialty care centers and doctors. The Salt Lake International Airport is expanding and offers easy, direct access to just about anywhere you want to fly. An additional advantage for applicants that are retired military service members is that the State of Utah just recently enacted legislation making retired military pay non-taxable beginning in tax-year 2022.

Why GBSD? The Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) Program is an enormous and complex "Mega-Project" modernizing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without any doubt, GBSD is one of the Department of Defense's (DoD's) most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment of hundreds of aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead. GBSD is the DoD's newest official "program of record," having just achieved Acquisitions Milestone B. It enjoys broad, strong support at the national level. It is a long-term project -- the weapon system will deploy over a nine-year period beginning in approximately 2026, and remain operational until at least 2075. GBSD is a career-defining program that will present unique and challenging opportunities that simply are not available with smaller projects.

Pursuant to Government contract, this position requires US Citizenship status.

This position is only located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, due to special-access, classified working environment and is not conducive to regular "telework" schedules.
