Technical Specialist – Installations Aerodynamics

Job Description

As an Installations Aerodynamic Engineer for Rolls-Royce, you'll work with our Civil and Defense customers to deliver inlet and exhaust system aero flow path lines, whilst also overseeing prototype development, testing and reporting.

The Installations Aerodynamic Engineer will be responsible to deliver inlet and exhaust system aero flow path lines, performance predictions in bid documentation, boundary conditions for Thermal, Stress, and Dynamics modeling requiring the use of aerodynamic design tools, act as an interface with the civil and military customers, and oversee prototype manufacture, testing, and reporting.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Defining requirements for aerodynamic components, systems and test rigs
  • Defining inlet and exhaust systems to be tested in a lab environment and integrated into a product systems
  • Creating performance maps for components to be integrated into cycle decks
  • Communicating with engineers fabricating the systems to ensure the function of systems
  • Creating pressure and temperature maps of near wall air flows for thermal and mechanical analysis boundary conditions
  • Interfacing with airframe and government customers to deliver system design presentations
  • Providing guidance and training to the engineering team

Basic Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in aerodynamics OR;
  • A Master's degree with 3+ years of experience in aerodynamics OR;
  • A JD/PhD with 0+ years of experience in aerodynamics
  • In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance, which requires US Citizenship

Preferred Requirements:
  • Propulsion system integration, design and build experience
  • Survivability design and technology development experience
  • Experience with risk analysis tools
  • Ability to perform CFD modelling on complex exhaust system components and/or sub-systems
  • Experience using Ansys Fluent and/or Siemens STAR-CCM tools
