The Enterprise Software Solutions department at Argonne National Laboratory invites you to join the team supporting the Laboratory's central software and services.We are seeking a software engineer to work on a Scrum team developing features for service management and operational processes on the ServiceNow platform. This position involves applying computer science to problem solving, analyzing requirements for management information, and recommending and designing the means for meeting those requirements, either by revising existing systems or developing new ones.

The successful candidate will work independently, with limited guidance, in an Agile team environment; exhibit effective collaboration and user interaction by working with peers, management, vendors, and others; and maintain a professional work ethic and respect of team members and software users.The position requires learning agility, perseverance, and communication skills.

The position provides effective systems support across a broad range of technologies and applications; completes programming using languages and software products; designs and conducts tests; addresses the root causes of problems; and recommends long-term solutions.

Position Requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of application development on modern platforms, preferably ServiceNow, or similar.
  • Advanced knowledge of web services development, such as REST or SOAP
  • Advanced knowledgeof web-based programming languages and frameworks, preferably Angular.js and JavaScript webapplication development, or similar
  • Considerable knowledge of service management systems
  • Considerable knowledgeof relational databases and tools, preferably Microsoft SQL, or similar
  • Knowledgeof Enterprise Linux platform and technologies
  • Considerable knowledge of software development life cycle,agile development, software testing and debugging
  • Working knowledge of ITIL best practices
  • Abilityto provide production support for both locally written and vendor-suppliedbusiness software
  • Ability to have a user-oriented outlook
  • Ability to understand and follow organizational best practices and standards
  • Strong service orientation, demonstrated ability to work effectively in a customer-focused service environment
  • Ability to be highly responsive, meet demanding deadlines, and prioritize a large number of diverse projects
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including the ability to initiate and foster collaborative relationships
  • Ability to produce secure, reliable, and extendable code

This position can be hired and one of two levels and the requirements for each are as follows:
  • PT3: Bachelor's degree + 4 years of experience, or a Master's + 2 years of experience, or equivalent
  • PT4: Bachelor's degree + 6 years of experience, or a Master's + 4 years of experience, or equivalent
