Managing Editor


Job Description:

Are you passionate about communications? Do you enjoy juggling multiple projects? Leidos has an exciting opportunity for you. We are seeking an experienced communications professional to serve as the Managing Editor for a complex communications contract with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). This position will be responsible for overseeing the development of print and digital products for several DOJ program offices. The successful candidate will drive innovation that will maximize the impact of agency communications to justice stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assigning work and managing workload for a team of experienced writers and editors.
  • Overseeing the quality of work products.
  • Reviewing and evaluating products for content, style, and tone.
  • Providing guidance on complex projects.
  • Hiring, coaching, and overseeing editorial staff.
  • Developing the team's skills.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Managing and streamlining procedures.
  • Identifying efficiencies.
  • Developing reports and presentations.
  • Providing surge writing support.
  • Assisting with business development.

This is a full-time remote position, but generally must be available from 8-5 Eastern Standard Time.

Please Note : This is a full-time remote position, but the candidate must be able to attend occasional meetings in person in Washington, D.C. and/or Gaithersburg, MD. Preferred, one to be in DC Area.

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, OR related field plus 5 years' experience managing a team of communications professionals and complex communications projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in print and digital communications.
  • Exceptional ability as a writer and editor.
  • Coaching and team development.
  • Have knowledge of style guides (including GPO, AP, and Chicago) and Section 508 compliance.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Desired Skills:
  • U.S. government experience, proven experience as a team leader, and excellent organizational and coordination skills.
  • Experience working on proposals and white papers is strongly desired.
