Research Histology Core Head

About This Role

You will be responsible for establishing and directing the Research Histology Core (RHC) facility that will provide technical expertise and scientific guidance for all research studies that develop and use tissue-based assays . You will lead a team of 2-5 associate scientists and develop state of the art capabilities for specialized technologies and innovative applications that will enable tissue based endpoints for new therapeutic modalities. You will provide expert input into in vivo study design and technical supervision of histology core scientists in methods development, validation, study execution. You will oversee a suite of external contracted vendors to flexibly support portfolio needs. As the Head of the core, you will be responsible for identification, ordering and installation of all relevant equipment, establishing a budget and working with IT to design and establish a sample management and inventory system that will ensure data integrity and FAIR data principles.

What You’ll Do
  • Establish and implement strategic plan to build core histology facility including hiring and training staff of 2-5 associate scientists
  • Provide advanced expertise in neuroanatomy and histology principles to research scientists to inform study design, sampling strategies, and selection of experimental methods to support the needs of research projects
  • Identify and vet appropriate external histology services contract research organizations and provide project oversight
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technical innovations that will benefit portfolio programs
  • Organize cross functional histology committee to coordinate and prioritize research requests for histology support

Required Skills
  • PhD in Biological discipline
  • 10 years deep scientific expertise with histological methods development and validation
  • Experience with automation of histology workflows
  • Significant experience managing external contract research organizations
  • Knowledge of rodent neuroanatomy
  • >10 years Supervisory experience
