Senior Manager Engineering - Drug Substance Facilities & Utilities


What you will do

Let's do this. Let's change the world! In this vital role you will lead the AML 6 Utilities Operations organization. Responsible for supervising, hiring, and developing staff. Ensuring operations uptime and activities are completed on time while maintaining safety, quality, and financial objectives. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor critical utilities operations parameters to ensure prompt response and utilities uptime above 99%.
  • Ensure resources are allocated and well trained to performed daily operations monitoring and response to events.
  • May lead system ownership groups: providing adequate maintenance procedures, monitoring performance data, providing adequate training materials, and continuously improving systems.
  • Crisis management, emergency response and decision making.
  • May lead a maintenance organization responsible to keep utility systems operating efficiently and authoritatively.
  • Liaison with engineering groups to provide support for the design, installation, start-up, and validation of facility and/or utilities equipment.
  • Perform work that involves in-depth investigation of subject area, definition of scope, selection of areas of investigation, and development of novel concept.
  • Conceive plans and conduct engineering investigations in areas of considerable scope and complexity.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review work of a small staff of engineers and/or technical specialists on an ongoing basis and management of contractors & vendors.
  • Ensure training programs are adequate for the operators personnel.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate work of a staff of operators, engineers and/or technicians.
  • Guides the successful completion of programs or multiple projects.
  • Interacts with senior external personnel often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Essential to the completion of broad programs and projects and/or ongoing 7/24 non-standard shift operations.

Doctorate degree in Engineering & 2 years of Engineering experience


Master's degree in Engineering & 6 years of Engineering experience


Bachelor's degree in Engineering & 8 years of Engineering experience


2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Beyond that, additional preferred qualifications are:

  • Educational background in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
  • GMP regulated industry and clean utilities experience.
  • Licensed Engineer (EIT or PE)
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Understands regulatory trends in industry. Some direct experience with FDA or equivalent regulatory body.
  • Change management skills and site or facility wide knowledge.
  • Lean Six sigma experience and process improvement mindset.
  • Working knowledge of financial analysis tools.
