As a Senior RF Engineer at Vectrus, you will provide support to multiple DoD Program Offices as well as our commercial customers. You will work both independently and with our professional engineering team to perform E3 testing/analysis, operational spectrum management, spectrum certification, EMC analysis, and 4G/5G LTE system development/testing.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
  • Analyze the RF compatibility of various co-located systems and develop EMC techniques to mitigate EMI.
  • Calculate link budgets and perform coupling analysis to identify operating capabilities and feasibilities of DoD and other spectrum dependent systems.
  • Perform and document Spectrum Supportability Risk Assessments (SSRA)s for DoD acquisition programs at various stages of development.
  • Perform EM Site Surveys to quantify the RF environment at DoD and commercial facilities.
  • Navigate multiple spectrum and frequency allocation databases to find information on systems of interest and apply this information to various analyses.
  • Use various propagation and RF modeling tools to model EMI and EMC between systems that are either co-located or spread out over vast area.
  • Develop custom propagation analysis tools using MATLAB and/or Python to analyze complex RF systems and environments.
  • Research system and equipment characteristics along with performance criteria.
  • Analyze and mitigate potential EMI between different Naval vessels and systems.
  • Develop test and system implementation procedures for DoD and/or 4G/5G systems.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team to ensure project goals and timelines are met
  • Participate and bring value to both internal and external discussions concerning project status, concerns, and potential mitigations.
  • Oversee less experienced engineers and provide guidance and direction when required.


MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

Must be proficient with Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers (RSA), Signal Generators, Amplifiers, and general RF testing equipment.

Working Environment:

Work will be performed in an office environment approximately 70% of the time with some field and laboratory work required. Typically testing will be performed outdoors. Local travel is required with the possibility of regional and international travel roughly 5 to 10% of the time.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors and occasionally carry test equipment up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Certifications / Experience:
  • Bachelor's (4 year) degree from an accredited College or University in a related STEM field with:
  • Ten (10) years' experience in either RF engineering associated with DoD spectrum dependent systems or in the areas of Navy/Joint Operational Spectrum Management and National Administrative Spectrum Management processes, applications, and systems.
  • Eight (8) years' experience in the application of Navy EMI, EMC criteria, or other engineering criteria for operational spectrum coordination and compatibility analyses.
  • Eight (8) years' experience in the operation and evaluation of afloat Navy communications, combat systems, electronic warfare systems, navigation aids, and other Navy spectrum-dependent systems, with the ability to write test plans/reports, conduct analytical evaluation of systems' RF compatibility, and develop actionable EMC techniques for operational use.
  • Eight (8) years' experience in conducting Navy spectrum EMI/EMC testing and evaluations, performing engineering analyses to predict and define spectrum EMI problems, define/design corrective measures, and operational implementation of systems in the U.S. Navy.
  • Four (4) years' experience in developing and updating Navy spectrum documentation, fleet operational publications, position papers, white papers, and briefings relating to Navy spectrum considerations.
  • Two (2) years' experience in trade-off analyses for development, fielding, and life-cycle support of tactical decision aids for electromagnetic spectrum de-confliction.
  • Active SECRET Security Clearance.

    OR

    Master's (6 year) degree from an accredited College or University in a related STEM field with:
  • Six (6) years' experience in either RF engineering associated with DoD spectrum dependent systems or in the areas of Navy/Joint Operational Spectrum Management and National Administrative Spectrum Management processes, applications, and systems.
  • Five (5) years' experience in the application of Navy EMI, EMC criteria, or other engineering criteria for operational spectrum coordination and compatibility analyses.
  • Five (5) years' experience in the operation and evaluation of afloat Navy communications, combat systems, electronic warfare systems, navigation aids, and other Navy spectrum-dependent systems, with the ability to write test plans/reports, conduct analytical evaluation of systems' RF compatibility, and develop actionable EMC techniques for operational use.
  • Two (2) years' experience in developing and updating Navy spectrum documentation, fleet operational publications, position papers, white papers, and briefings relating to Navy spectrum considerations.
  • Two (2) years' experience in trade-off analyses for development, fielding, and life-cycle support of tactical decision aids for electromagnetic spectrum de-confliction.
  • Active SECRET Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years' experience in developing and executing systems level tests for commercial 4G/5G LTE systems.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C, or C++ programming language.
  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information).
