Public Fixed Income: MetLife Investment Management (MIM) manages over $375 billion in public fixed income assets globally. The suite of strategies available in Public Fixed Income includes separately managed accounts and commingled vehicles that provide broad coverage of both the risk spectrum (Enhanced Cash to High Yield) and term structure (Short-term to Long Duration). We offer a bottom up, fundamental approach to public fixed income that is supported by a collaborative investment team process. MIM has a deep and experienced team of over 140 Public Fixed Income investment professionals, including 20 portfolio managers. Investment decisions are informed by a team-based culture with portfolio managers, credit analysts, and traders contributing to idea generation. Risk management is layered into the portfolio construction process and supplemented by independent oversight. We seek to build long-lasting relationships through a comprehensive approach to understanding each of our client's needs and objectives and constructing fixed income portfolios that best meet their goals.

The Role : The Director, Pensions and LDI Solutions Lead Strategist, reports to the Head of Long Duration and LDI. This individual will have an in-depth knowledge of liability-driven investing, including liability hedging, supporting glide path implementation approaches, and completion management, and will serve as a key contact for clients in creating solutions to meet their objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in strategic planning to grow the LDI business
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of liability-driven investment strategies
  • Present investment and asset allocation solutions to clients, advising on all aspects of liability-driven investment; represent MIM's LDI capabilities in external client meetings, facilitating client engagement
  • Assess asset allocations based on plan objectives and support LDI portfolio construction analysis working with colleagues across MIM, including fixed income portfolio and risk teams; provide recommendations based on the analysis to clients
  • Partner with stakeholders across the organization, including the investment team, risk management, and institutional client group to deliver best in-class investment and service offering to investors
  • Drive technology and operational improvements and innovation to deliver best in class LDI solutions to clients
  • Deliver insights via thought-leadership, commentary and conference presentations on relevant topics in the LDI domain
  • Understand and closely follow the competitive landscape, including products, competitor analysis, industry trends, and other developments, to inform the product development and marketing teams, and assist with positioning
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of the liability-driven investment space and provide product education externally as well as internally
  • Leverage innovative and analytical thinking, preparing and implementing action plans and leading improvement initiatives

  • Key Stakeholders: Head of Public Fixed Income; Head of Institutional Business; Head of Insurance Asset Management; Head of Strategic Planning & Business Management - MIM

Candidate Qualifications:
  • 10-15+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated ability in asset-liability modeling, design of solutions for pension clients, and LDI implementation
  • Strong knowledge of US corporate pensions, including structures and types, liabilities, regulatory, and accounting aspects
  • Expert level knowledge in fixed income across sectors and derivatives, and general mastery of fixed income concepts
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, with expertise in explaining complex topics
  • Excellent relationship-building skills across all levels externally and internally; proven ability to build relationships and contacts within the pension community and their consultants.
  • Advanced quantitative and modelling skills, and solid analytical aptitude; actuarial and strong technical background helpful
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Hands-on approach and passion for growing a business
  • Demonstrates strength in strategic thinking, identifying key business issues and opportunities, creating business strategies, and driving results
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required; CFA or advanced degree strongly preferred
