Job Description

Seeking a talented analytical leader to turn passion for data and support of world-class journalism into tools and insights. The manager balances strategic thinking with technical execution to ship high-quality platforms and features. As the data lead for our Standalone team, the manager will collaborate with our Podcast, Cooking, and Games > teams to establish data best practices, build and improve data pipelines and optimize foundational data sources in support of analytics excellence and data efficiency.

This position requires extremely strong strategic and tactical viewpoints, excellent people leadership skills, a creative mindset, and mastery of data architecture and execution.

  • Create and own the roadmap and development of data products
  • Build new tools and reports to monitor audience growth and engagement via internal and third-party data sources
  • Collaborate closely with data science, data platform, ecom, and analytics teams across the company to ensure data completeness and consistency.
  • Conduct bespoke analysis for key stakeholders and partners as needed, while automating and improving processes to meet the majority of requests
  • Clearly and effectively communicate launches, roadmap status, and platform performance across the organization
  • Build cross-departmental collaborative relationships with partners that includes engaging them in the goal-setting process, defining high-level priorities and flawless execution
  • Scope technical requirements and write product use cases and specifications with Github, JIRA, and other tools
  • Manage and develop team of analysts

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Quantitative degree
  • People leadership experience
  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Mastery of SQL, experience in Python or R
  • Mastery of big data environments
  • Experience in data visualization/reporting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work seamlessly with multiple stakeholders in a cross functional team of analysts, technologists, operations and product managers.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Looker, Mode, D3, Tableau, Chartio, or other dashboarding/BI tool
  • Experience working with AppAnnie or competitive comparison tool
  • Subscription acquisition and retention experience
  • Audience growth and engagement experience
