This position is for a full time position in the Adult Cardiac Surgery Department. It consists of split time between clinic and operating room duties, working closely with cardiac surgeon and as an integrated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team. This is an amazing opportunity to work with world renounced surgeons and residents at a rapidly growing, dynamic and integrated cardiac program and team, where many of the cardiac procedures we use today were started.

¡P Outpatient / Clinic Duties: Full detailed work up of clinic patients, comprehensive physical exam with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients post op patients, communication with patient, family and cardiologists, Orders, interprets and follow up on any echo¡¦s, CTA, caths, scans as needed for attending/patients.

¡P Operating Room:
¡P Second assist (in accordance with California Physician Assistant Laws) and first assist with necessary, in adult cardiac surgery, Minimum 3 years experience. (experience preferred, but also will interview new grads), work closely under one main attending surgeon (see all their clinic patients and participate in all his/her surgical cases) as well as coverage for other cardiac cases when needed, experience and willingness to train other new PA¡¦s in cardiac surgery and vein harvesting, Experienced and proficient in vein harvesting ; both open and endoscopic; (EVH) Minimum 3 years experience, Experience and proficient in radial artery harvesting, endoscopic radial harvest preferred (EAH).
Ability to take and preform additional coverage: (as the Lead APP has designated)
o Weeknight coverage (6pm-7am)
o Weekend coverage (Friday starting 6pm ¡V Sunday 7am)
Cover and help with co-APPs call time, vacation time and leave.

II. QUALIFICATIONS

¡P Education

¡P Physician Assistant (PA-C):

¡P Bachelor¡¦s degree or above from an accredited college or university; with masters preferred
¡P Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.

¡P Licensure/Certification

¡P Physician Assistant (PA):

¡P Licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of California; or currently in the process of obtaining
¡P Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
¡P Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) & Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
¡P An individual Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license issued by the United States DEA for Schedule II-V controlled substances, required only if prescribing controlled substances to outpatients

¡P Additional board certification(s) may be required by certain services/departments/surgeons.
