Contracts Manager - Forge & Spares Business

Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a Fortune 500 Company, has an opportunity for a Contracts Manager to join our Combat Mission Systems business located at our BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P., facility in Anniston, Al.

The individual will be responsible for the management of a portfolio of both domestic (US Government) and international contracts and pursuits across the Spares, Sustainment and Forge operations.

The position requires an awareness of a range of contracting methods including US FAR based contracts, direct commercial sale and international contracting. The team member will be responsible for leading the local contracts team and provide leadership, guidance and support during proposal, fact-find, negotiations, and day to day contract execution activities. The individual will develop and maintain professional and dependable relationships with both internal and external customers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads a team of contracts professionals across the Combat Mission Systems Spares, Forge and Sustainment operations.
  • Represents the Contracts function at local Senior Level Leadership engagements.
  • Guide, direct, and evaluate the activities of Contract personnel involved in bid/proposal efforts, and the negotiation and management of contracts to assure compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Interfaces regularly with internal customers, leadership, and team to provide advice and counsel on contractual and strategic business matters.
  • Provide analysis of solicitations and develops capture strategies to assure that proposals are optimized to obtain contract awards while minimizing associated liabilities and risk.
  • Develops solutions to complex contracting issues aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Oversees the effective administration of proposals and active contracts from award through to closeout.
  • Creates formal networks with key decision makers, both internal and external to the organization and will form sound relationships with key interfaces.
  • Maintains a working understanding of the US Government Acquisition and Procurement environment and relevant company / functional policies and procedures.
  • Maintains awareness of specialized contracts such as; international contracting, GSS, Other Transaction Agreements (OTA), commercial contracting, joint ventures, strategic alliances, intellectual property
  • Train and develop the local Contracts team. Operates with an appreciation of safety, schedule, quality, and financial implications to mitigate risk while increasing profitability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel required.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant Contract Management experience or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of DoD contracting
  • Expert knowledge of FAR/DFAR
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers and suppliers;
  • Utilize computer skills to prepare appropriate reports and documents- Microsoft Office
  • Make decisions using sound judgement while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate research and presentation skills to senior leadership.
  • Significant ability to influence and advise senior corporate management.
  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge in an area of contracting such as, but not limited to certain contract types, commercial contracting, joint ventures, strategic alliances and intellectual property.
  • Excellent organizational and follow through skills.
  • Ability to multitask is critical for fast paced High volume environment

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Experience with USG Defense Logistics Agency Procurement
  • Experience with International Contracting and Laws
