Job Description
BAE Systems is looking for a high energy leader to support our product lines. This individual will be responsible for direct management of touch labor and for providing primary leadership to the production team.
The successful candidate will be the primary program point of contact for the production team and provide leadership of day to day execution for the extended production team.
This position will be responsible to support our overall factory growth of touch labor and production output. This individual will be a vital leader within our factory aligned with one of our fastest growing business lines.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the overall manufacturing process to ensure that the schedule is achieved by working with manufacturing engineering, production planning, and quality control to balance any schedule adjustments required.
  • Plan and direct the activities of the Supervisors and machinists and set clear expectations and goals to ensure focus on safety, quality, schedule and efficiency.
  • Plan and organize production process and availability of necessary material, equipment, and labor
  • Provide leadership guidance to the machining group towards successfully achieving key operational metrics (safety/environmental, quality, on-time delivery, CPI, EH&S, etc.)
  • Drive cost savings through identification of process efficiencies, managing overtime and controlling usage of raw material and equipment / resource utilizations. Work seamlessly with the Continuous Improvement M.E. group and support all efficiency improvement actions
  • Manage and control the allocated budget for the programs under the Machining Value Stream Manager's control.
  • Work proactively with management team to ensure that site efforts and project initiatives are aligned with business needs and strategic direction.
  • Support and encourage a culture and an attitude with an emphasis on quality improvement
  • Maintain a best-in-class facility by proactively monitoring maintenance & repairs of equipment/tools
  • Monitor financial performance of department to ensure targets are being met
  • Develop business cases for adding new capabilities to the business.
  • Thorough knowledge of production, manufacturing and systems operations.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years or more progressive work experience or equivalent experience
  • Experience supervising production machinists is required. Knowledge of CNC machining and machining job scheduling is a plus.
  • Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with management and employees at all levels, customers, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed data analysis, identify areas for improvement, and drive focused actions to initiate change.
  • Ability to lead teams and drive Lean / continuous improvement culture.
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems
  • Ability to work independently and be effective in a fast paced environment
  • Experience hosting audits in manufacturing environment, root cause and corrective action technics and project management for implementing new methodologies to resolve systemic issues.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • 10 years of experience preferred
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts preferred
  • Experience with US Government work or Weapon Systems technologies preferred
  • Experience interfacing with program offices preferred
  • Six Sigma problem solving preferred, if not Six Sigma, some experience with structured problem solving techniques (i.e.- 5 Whys, RCCA, etc) preferred
