Scientist - Cell and Biochemical Assays

Job Description

Biogen is looking for an agile and innovative assay scientist to join our Bioassays and High-Throughput Screens (BHTS) group within the Biotherapeutics and Medicinal Sciences department in Cambridge, MA. This position requires a self-motivated and productive scientist who can lead from the bench and enjoys collaborating with biologists, chemists, and assay scientists.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and execute physiologically relevant microplate-based cell and biochemical assays to identify and characterize small-molecule modulators using various assay technologies, such as MSD, ELISA, AlphaScreen, FRET, TR-FRET, BRET, and radioligand displacement.
  • Experience with GPCR or ion channel assays is a plus.
  • Work closely with project teams and BHTS colleagues to deploy high-throughput screening assays and drive SAR development.
  • Oversee the transfer of assays to external CROs and monitor the data quality of outsourced assays.

Who You Are

The successful candidate will be an assay expert who can support small-molecule research teams by developing relevant cellular and biochemical assays for various targets in the early discovery phase. Familiarity with cell line development and pathway validation is preferred.


  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Three or more years of experience developing and running plate-based cell and biochemical assays
  • Proven ability to successfully take on challenges, troubleshoot efficiently, and quickly adapt to new responsibilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work productively as part of a cross-functional team
  • Fluent in assay data analysis and relevant software

Biogen’s US Alzheimer’s Franchise is looking to recruit proven and ambitious sales achievers with at least five years of experience in pharma, specialty, hospital, med device/capital equipment, and/or biotech sales.
In this field-based, specialty sales representative position you will be called upon to sell our products with key stakeholders in the Alzheimer’s Disease community: including Neurologists and allied health professionals.
