Associate Scientist II, Neuromuscular Disorder Research - In Vivo

About This Role

The Neuromuscular Disorder Research Group seeks a motivated Associate Scientist with a strong experience in small laboratory animal studies to join our team. This position will focus on evaluating the efficacy and pharmacology of novel therapeutic targets and molecules in Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) animal models.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct in-vivo animal studies including study planning, dosing, phenotype monitoring, and collection of relevant tissue and biofluid samples, and documenting study data
  • Actively contribute to establishing and characterizing new ALS animal models and new disease endpoints
  • Analyze and plot study results, present at team meetings, and internal Neuromuscular disorder group forums
  • Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams across multiple projects

Who You Are

You are passionate about developing life-saving therapies for neurodegenerative disorders like ALS. You have hands-on experience with in-vivo studies using animal models and are interested in gaining expertise in in-vivo techniques relevant for drug development for neurodegenerative disorders.

Education and Required Skills
  • BS/MS degree in a relevant scientific discipline with 2-5 years of laboratory experience in academia or industry
  • Hands-on experience with small laboratory animal handling and techniques including dosing, phenotype monitoring, collection of tissues and biofluids
  • A solid understanding of experimental design and underlying scientific principles
  • Strong interest and ability to learn new in-vivo techniques including surgery on small laboratory animals
  • Bench work experiences, for example, PCR, western blotting, ELISA or immunostaining

Preferred Skills
  • Experiences and knowledge of biology and/or diseases of central nervous system (CNS) and/or muscle including of relevant animal models
  • Experiences in rodent surgery, stereotactic injections, CNS tissue dissection, microdissection
  • Experience with molecular biology and biochemistry work (RNA and DNA extraction, real-time PCR, Western blotting, ELISA)
