Benefits Specialist/Associate

Upon resumption of normal operations, this role may be performed at our New York, New York office.

As the Benefits Specialist/Associate, you will interpret, administer and provide support to employees on employee benefits plans in accordance with plan documents and policies. Audits system processes, analyzes errors and implements corrections and improvements. Assist in all areas of vendor management in line with regional and group requirements. Work with employee benefit plan providers and vendors to implement best practice administration processes. Acts as subject matter expert and support for problem resolution for employees and business partners.

Here's what you can expect day-to-day

As the Benefits Specialist/Associate, you will:
  • Manage special projects and/or assignments within the department in relation to benefit programs and processes. Oversee personnel and/or vendors working on those projects to ensure deadlines and project objectives are met.
  • Independently interpret, administer and provide support to employees on specific employee benefits plans in accordance with plan documents and policies.
  • Act as intermediary with benefits providers and employees in resolving issues. Provide guidance to business partners on employee benefit plan policy and program interpretation.
  • Provide support to employees on employee benefits plans in accordance with plan documents and policies. Handle elevated benefit issues that cannot be resolved by call center personnel.
  • Interpret, administer and provide support to employees on specific employee benefits plans in accordance with plan documents and policies.
  • Assist in preparation of financial and usage reports for management and program use.
  • Prepare and analyze financial and usage reports for specific benefits plans such as census reports, valuation data, trends, and expenses.
  • Audit system processes, analyze errors and implement corrections and improvements.
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues
  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.


Employment eligibility to work with HSBC in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions
  • Five years proven human resources and/or benefits administration experience
  • Payroll experience a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business related field or equivalent experience
  • Advanced Excel skills required - must be able to perform VLOOKUPs and use pivot tables
  • Experience as a customer facing Benefits Associate, well-developed customer service, orginazational, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing vendor relationships
  • Experience with systems such as Vanguard, Alight and SAP SuccessFactors a plus
