Job Description

The New York Times Audio Team is seeking a news assistant in the New York office who will help with the digital rollout of a new show from Opinion Audio and the Ezra Klein Show. We need a strong writer who will bring editorial rigor to the job, a creative thinker who is passionate about news and a podcast enthusiast. You should have meticulous attention to detail and enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative, deadline-driven environment. And you should be able to juggle a variety of tasks to support various shows and series the Audio team is putting out.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Producing article pages including headline and web copy for shows and series.
  • Uploading audio to transcription sites, proofing and publishing transcripts.
  • Coordinate with art/photo departments for relevant episodic art and ensure assets are delivered on time and to spec.
  • Attend weekly check in meetings with Opinion Audio shows.
  • Maintain documentation tracking logistics and production schedules for the new show.
  • Work closely with the new show and Ezra Klein Show teams on day-to-day production needs (i.e. helping find additional information for a producer when prepping a host).
  • Monitoring incoming emails, curating listener feedback and responding to listeners when appropriate.
  • Help with administrative tasks, as needed.
  • Help manage administrative paperwork (i.e. contracts).


The ideal candidate is:
  • Has a B.A. degree
  • 1-2 years experience in a newsroom
  • Optimistic and enthusiastic, a constructive problem solver.
  • Able to multitask, well organized, accustomed to complex stakeholder ecosystems.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented.
  • An excellent communicator in speech and writing, comfortable taking and giving feedback.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Media savvy with a strong interest in journalism.
