Associate Scientist II, Neuromuscular and Muscle Disorders

About This Role

Biogen is a pioneering leader in developing therapeutics against challenging neurological disorders and rare diseases. The Neuromuscular and Muscle Disorders Research Unit is looking for a motivated, innovative and dedicated scientist to develop novel therapies for Muscle Disorders. The candidate will join a team that is centered on exploring and developing new treatments using a broad range of therapeutic modalities for muscle diseases. We are looking for a candidate that will develop and perform preclinical assays, including molecular and cell-based assays, to assess efficacy of innovative therapies that will have an impact on patient’s lives.

What You’ll Do
  • Support in-vitro and ex-vivo studies for on-going muscle disease programs
  • Identify and validate novel assays and characterize cell models of muscle diseases to inform selection of successful therapies
  • Support in vivo characterization of preclinical models
  • Collaborate with the internal research team and with other research units to establish novel disease models
  • Maintain good documentation using electronic laboratory notebooks, present data to team and write study reports

Required Skills
  • BS or MS in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related field
  • 0-3 years of experience in an academic or biotech/pharmaceutical industry setting
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques (RT-PCR, qPCR, DNA gel electrophoresis, western blot, immunofluorescence, etc)
  • Basic knowledge of mammalian cell culture
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to use Microsoft Excel for data analysis and/or Prism
  • Ability to independently execute and analyze molecular biology experiments

Preferred Skills
  • Previous experience with maintaining and differentiating muscle cell models including iPSC-derived or primary myoblasts

Biogen’s US Alzheimer’s Franchise is looking to recruit proven and ambitious sales achievers with at least five years of experience in pharma, specialty, hospital, med device/capital equipment, and/or biotech sales.
In this field-based, specialty sales representative position you will be called upon to sell our products with key stakeholders in the Alzheimer’s Disease community: including Neurologists and allied health professionals.
