Job Description

This application is for a full-time co-op role from January - June 2022.

The mission of the U.S. Public Policy & GovernmentAffairs(PPGA)team is to provide a recognized,coordinated,and credible voice for Biogen to interact with policy stakeholderstomanage political risks and create opportunitiesthat enable the achievement of policy goals.

As aWinter Co-opyou willassistand gainexposure tothe entire PPGA team(Federal, Strategic Alliances, State and Policy).As a co-op, youwillassist with bothday-to-daytasksand specific projectsincludingidentifyingaccess issues/other barriers related toBiogen’s in-lineand pipelineproductsand identifying policy solutions;developing relationships with and educatingpublic officials and other external stakeholdersfor adoption of Biogen’s positions;identifyingand supportinghealth equity policy proposalsthat align withthebusiness’ DE&I goals;informing the business of new lawstoinform compliance activity; aligningcorporate messaging to the public;andmanaging trade association membershipsanddeveloping industry thought leadership,

Detailed description of role including but not limited to:
  • Day to day responsibilities: Bill tracking;policyresearch, analysis and drafting on issues includingdrug pricing/promoting innovation,patient accessand affordability(coverage and reimbursement; reducing OOP costs), biosimilars,seriousmental health, Alzheimer’s,health equity,and environmental sustainability/energy; sharing key policy developments with the business; engaging in meetings with internal and external stakeholders;coordinatingpolitical engagement activities, etc.
  • End to end process description: At the end of theCo-op,you will have a better understandingofhow to workwith internal stakeholders/the business to delineateBiogen’s public policy priorities and the role and value of the PPGA team to advance them;how to participate in the legislative and regulatory advocacy process andhow to strategically interact and influencegovernmentstakeholders (Congress, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS),state legislatures, Departmentsof Health, etc.) as well asotherkeyexternal stakeholders (providers, think-tanks,patient advocacy groups,etc.)

You will also be responsible for some project work, including:
  • Providing updates to internal business units onrelevantpolicyactions& implicationsin Medicare (Part B and Part D)and state Medicaid programs
  • Identifying policies to supportto further Biogen’s health equity and broader DE&I objectives
  • Leading a policy discussion with the PPGA teamon a timely topic
  • Participating inmeetings withpublic officials(e.g.MA/NC Congressional delegation or state legislators), industry groups(BIO & PhRMA)and other external stakeholders
  • Coordinating political engagement activities, including a PPGA internal briefing onmid-term elections andhow the outcome may impact Biogen’spublic policy priorities


  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge ofor interest caresystemstructure and how the system is financed
  • Knowledge ofor interest ingovernment legislative& regulatoryprocessesora strong interest in learning about theseprocesses
  • Experienceor interest inresearching complex policy issues andtheability to brainstorm legislative/regulatorypolicysolutions

To participate in the BiogenInternship/Co-opProgram, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

  • Degree:JD,MBA,MPH,MHAor other graduate degree
  • Majors:Business,Political Science,Health Care Administration,History, English,or other related fields of study


Remote, optional in office for those close to MA, DC offices

Biogen’s US Alzheimer’s Franchise is looking to recruit proven and ambitious sales achievers with at least five years of experience in pharma, specialty, hospital, med device/capital equipment, and/or biotech sales.
In this field-based, specialty sales representative position you will be called upon to sell our products with key stakeholders in the Alzheimer’s Disease community: including Neurologists and allied health professionals.
