Technical Writer/Editor


Job Description
This position supports the Current Population Survey (CPS) System that provides national labor and economic statistics to the American public, Congress, other Federal agencies, state and local governments, businesses, and labor as the monthly Employment Situation. The system maintains information about the nation's working population and provides strategic information on employment, unemployment, and other leading economic indicators, such as labor force, earnings/women's earnings, veterans, annual family, disability, and foreign born.

The Technical Writer will write and edit technical documents for users of statistical software, as well as to support a range of software development activities. This will be in a project supporting the development of statistical processing systems.



Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Possess excellent communication and English writing skills.
  • experience in preparing documents for electronic distribution;
  • experience using MS Office products and other standard documentation software or tools such as Madcap Flare.
  • Requires understanding and experience within Agile software development life cycle.
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience




Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Skills/Experience in the following:
  • writing, editing, revising, proofreading, and assembling reports, minutes, SDLC documents, and user documentation such as user manuals and online help content.
  • Creates and edits graphic images for use in documentation.
  • Creates and maintains project plans to develop work on timely basis coincident with software development
  • Experience using desktop publishing software, or the desktop capabilities of word processing software
  • Uses desktop capabilities of Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher.
  • Creates on-line or hypertext help files. Prepares documents for Web publication using HTML and HTML editors.
  • Plans, designs, and delivers documentation. Coordinates and schedules document production.
  • assist in the design and maintenance of websites for teams.
  • assist editing technical documents.
  • Experience in software testing.
