Senior Actuary

Role Value Proposition:

This position reports to the SVP, Capital Strategy & Planning and focuses on US capital management. It is a high-profile role providing oversight of US capital projections, as well as analysis and reporting of capital issues and opportunities. This person will partner across the company to surface issues and opportunities and support development of strategies under all relevant financial regimes including US Statutory solvency (NAIC RBC), economic and rating agency capital models.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for US capital management process (dividends, contributions, transactions, etc.), including sensitivities and stress testing, supporting the cash flow forecast for US insurance businesses
  • Assist in the refinement of statutory projections, sensitivities and stress testing framework
  • Responsible for enterprise Priority Metrics sensitivities process, including presentation showing Enterprise and key entity sensitivities of dividends, solvency ratios, Free Cash Flow, GAAP Earnings and Economic Capital ratios to economic drivers. This is reported to executive management and used in key ALM, Investment, Reinsurance and capital-related decisions
  • Assess and analyze evolving US entity and group capital requirements and recommend actions where appropriate
  • Partner with multiple groups on capital issues; ensure regular and effective two-way communication
  • Evaluate capital issues, support rating agency advocacy, reinsurance and capital management transactions and other matters
  • Support analysis, decision-making and execution of projects/transactions, partnering with Treasury, Reinsurance and M&A groups and Actuarial, Finance, Investments, GRM and Business units;
  • Develop, validate, document, and maintain financial models. Review and challenge results, and effectively communicate results to Treasury, Finance, Risk, and other business leaders
  • Analyze and determine opportunities to increase capital efficiency

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 6 years' experience in finance or actuarial science
  • Insurance modeling experience- Technical skill and demonstrated ability to develop models and critically review, challenge, and communicate modeling results
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with ability to focus on details and synthesize into actionable recommendations
  • High personal impact, self-starter, critical thinker
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to influence others with different backgrounds and levels
  • Team player - ability to develop and sustain effective relationships across the company
  • Strong project management and leadership skills

  • BA/BS degree, preferably in Math, Finance, Actuarial Science, or Accounting. Completion of ASA or CFA, FSA preferred.
