Summary

Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL Research) brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers with the shared goal of developing AR and VR across the spectrum. The Surreal Vision research group at FRL Research is seeking exceptional managers, engineers, and technical leads to solve the next generation of research challenges on the path to building future machine perception enabled technologies.

We are looking for a talented Research Engineering Manager who can oversee the development of an ecosystem that ties data from devices like Project Aria - our next generation ego-centric research device - to our state-of-the-art LiveMaps, AI, and AR research efforts.

Required Skills

  • Lead, support, and expand a team of managers and research/software engineers to build an ecosystem of datasets, data services, and data pipelines which enable all of our state-of-the-art AR and AI research
  • Be highly technical, effective as a people manager, and have a natural desire to bring structure to organizations
  • Manage engineers and help them develop their careers including technical mentorship, matching them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles
  • Partner with cross-organizational partners to transfer incubated technology to production teams
  • Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement
  • Be restlessly ambitious in creating a positive work environment


Minimum Qualification

  • BSc in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent
  • Experience with large-scale data management or data-processing systems
  • 5+ years of experience leading multi-discipline organizations and managing managers including team formation and recruitment
  • 5+ years of people management experience in teams at the intersection of science, engineering, and product
  • 8+ years of experience working in cutting edge technology development
  • Extensive experience working within collaborative that requires cross-functional partnership


Preferred Qualification

  • Track record of shipping major project/product features as the project/product leader
  • Background in one or more of the following domains: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Virtual/Augmented Reality
