The Role at a Glance

This position will perform and deliver on routine assignments / projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge within the Underwriting function. This role will assess financial risks related to insurance products, determine price at which LFG will accept risks, alter coverage plans/levels based on risk and pricing, and bind LFG in transactions for insurance products. They will determine whether to accept or reject a risk based on their analysis of the customers information.

What you'll be doing

  • Adds amendments/ACRs for their assigned lines of coverage and segment.
  • Adheres to departmental and compliance documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Analyzes customer data & information (e.g., experience rating, loss-history, incident rates, severity rates, prior price history, actuarial reports, etc.) to determine the price, within target ranges, at which to accept risks posed by sales.
  • Analyzes financial health, performance, operations, and personnel levels of customers to determine if additional safeguards or conditions should be included in pricing and risk assessment.
  • Assists with other assignments/projects as needed during peak and off-seasons.
  • Binds LFG in financial transactions within their scope of authority by committing LFG to provide insurance coverage at their determined rates.
  • Collaborates with more senior underwriters to analyze information to prepare new business proposals, amendments, and suggested renewal action for potential release.
  • Determines if requests for coverage should be rejected based on their risk assessment.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with assigned field offices.
  • Identifies and communicates to management process improvements that reduce workloads or improve quality for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Liaises with operational teams to ensure accurate preparation of plans with appropriate coverage level(s) & pricing.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
  • Performs and delivers on routine assignments/projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge of their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Promotes and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Recommends potential modifications in coverage(s) and/or coverage levels on insurance products based on customers price range.
  • Reviews requests for proposals/ coverage(s) for Dental and STD product lines in the Core segment with 100-250 lives for new business and Core 100-500 lives for renewals.


What we're looking for

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or eqiuvalent work experience (4 years of experiene in lieu of Bachelor's)
  • 2-5 Years of group life and/or disability underwriting experience directly aligned to the specific responsibilities for this role.
  • Prior rating experience
