The Medical Assistant provides quality nursing care to patients and assists the Physician and Nurse Practitioners in the clinical setting.

We offer 2 to 4 weeks of paid training. This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends. Our office is located at 2633 Napoleon Avenue, New Orleans Louisiana 70115.

Principal Responsibilities:

As part of a multi - disciplinary care coordination team:
  • Addresses the total patient, inclusive of medical, psychosocial, behavioral, cultural, and spiritual needs
  • Preparation of multiple charts - populating each chart with proper information including gathering information from outside EMR and other data
  • Involves the individual patient and caregiver, as appropriate, in decision making
  • Facilitates communication and coordination among members of the care team
  • Provides patient care to include: patient assessment prior to physician's / nurse practitioner's examination, serves as patient advocate / liaison by answering questions related to care and treatment, as appropriate, provides patient education and self - management support, implements physician orders (injections, diagnostic tests and point of care testing, referrals, etc.) and assists providers with procedures as directed
  • Assist in tele-health assessment process
  • Escorts patient to exam room
  • Participates in team "huddles"
  • Triages phone calls to the appropriate department and enters the call into the EMR as a Telephone Encounter. After the call has been addressed, communicates with the patient and documents in the Telephone Encounter
  • Maintains cleanliness of the patient care areas (exam rooms)
  • Ensures exam rooms are always stocked
  • Cleans and disinfects instruments according to policy
  • Performs clinic tasks as directed by Clinic Supervisor
  • Assists Clinic Supervisors with the ordering and receiving of medical supplies and medications
  • Works closely with the Clinic Supervisor and Operations Manager to create and implement new workflows
  • Occasional travel from service center to service center as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of clinic work experience
  • Computer experience
  • Experience with OSHA / HIPAA compliance
  • Electronic Medical Records work experience
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Injection administering
  • Current Medical Assistant certification
  • Current CPR / AED certification

Physical and Work Environment:
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds
  • Ability to bend and sit for long periods
