Reliability Engineer Intern, Infrastructure Data Centers

Summary

Facebook is seeking a Reliability Engineer Intern to join its Global Facilities Operations Support team. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The reliability team supports our data centers by developing standardized processes and procedures, reliability strategies and providing regional operational support to ensure maximum readiness of equipment and operating systems. The ideal candidate for this role will be organized, able to shift seamlessly between technical understanding of data center equipment and smaller daily tasks and demonstrate strong communication skills. This person should be a detail-oriented, get-things-done professional who can think methodically, adapt quickly, and rapidly earn credibility and trust within our Facility Operations (FacOps) teams.Reliability Engineers at Facebook fill the mission-critical role of ensuring that our complex, large-scale systems are healthy, monitored, automated, and designed to scale. You'll use your interest in facility operations and your experience of mechanical and/or electrical systems to work closely with our cross functional partners to identify strategic programs and reliability improvements of our equipment throughout their complete lifecycle.

Required Skills

  • Gain deep knowledge of our complex mechanical and/or electrical equipment applications, helping determine means of improvement for the overall health and performance of one or more of them
  • Gain an understanding of the reliability principles, practices, and strategies associated with operations and equipment by working with a diverse group of functional areas on such projects as: cause analysis, reliability centered maintenance, mechanical integrity, equipment maintenance strategies, uptime improvements, and site equipment and process improvements
  • Support in further developing and improving programs for the Asset Management team that ensure consistency across Facebook Data Centers globally, while demonstrating excellence in execution and consensus building across cross-functional teams
  • Analyze existing business processes, identify gaps, conduct root cause analysis (RCA) if needed, and find opportunities for improvement
  • Work cross functionally to review detailed business requirements and quantify pain points around operational issues
  • Serve as a technical expert leveraging analytical engineering skills to successfully support operational needs, program direction, and tools development
  • Work closely with cross functional teams to ensure that programs and required documentation are designed with scale, operability, and performance in mind
  • Plan and collaborate with team members, stakeholders and suppliers on data driven projects to improve internal tools, systems, and data pipelines


Minimum Qualification

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • Knowledge of technical equipment such as mechanical, electrical and/or controls systems
  • Experience adapting, learning new skill sets, and creating a solid understanding of operational challenges
  • Experience in mathematics and statistics
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and investigate cooperation with multiple departments
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written, including technical terminology
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment


Preferred Qualification

  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
  • Data center or critical facility operations experience
  • Previous operations, technical, production, co-op, or intern experience
  • Experience with understanding operational challenges and solving problems in various areas of business
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions independently
  • Function well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Possesses a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance
  • Experience with various databases and business visualization/intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.
  • Leadership experience
