Position Description:

The Senior Operations Specialist for our Company's Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) at the Elkton facility is responsible for safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective operation, leading strong collaboration with operators, operations managers, and the technical engineering staff. WWTP Operations is responsible for providing the Elkton campus 24 hours per day, 365 days per year treatment capability.

Responsibilities include:
  • In collaboration with the plant operators and operations managers, operate the WWTP in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Define, manage, and implement operational adjustments and changes, gaining operator buy-in and adherence.
  • Develop and maintain an operational control plan in collaboration with Technical Operations to ensure operational efficiency and environmental compliance, drive accountability, and achieve high levels of performance.
  • Review and certify electronic discharge monitoring report monthly as certified wastewater operator.
  • Collaborate with technical support team in managing, troubleshooting, and improving the biological and chemical wastewater treatment and solids handling processes as well as site sanitary treatment system.
  • Provide 24/7 on call support for WWTP Operations staff and provides effective emergency or crisis response.
  • Support WWTP capital project design, coordination of operational shutdown/bypass to support construction activities, commissioning, and turnover acceptance.
  • Develop and train of the skills and capabilities of the operational managers and operational team.
  • Participates in audits, safety reviews, and area walkdowns.
  • May include managing operational decisions and adjustments to Solvent Recovery Operations in collaboration with operators and operations Managers.

Position Qualifications :

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor Degree or higher in engineering (mechanical, chemical, or similar discipline) or related scientific field (chemistry, physics, math) and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in Manufacturing, Maintenance or Military environments.

  • Associate degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, or similar discipline) or related scientific field (chemistry, physics, math) and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in Manufacturing, Maintenance or Military environments

  • High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Manufacturing, Maintenance or Military environments
  • In addition, a minimum 2 years of wastewater treatment plant operations experience.

Required Experience and Skills:
  • The successful candidate must hold or achieve a Virginia Wastewater Class II license (or higher) within two years after hire.
  • Experience operating an activated sludge waste treatment facility with nutrient removal capabilities and solids handling system.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal/state regulations, engineering standards, EPA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and P&ID drawings.
  • Highly developed communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize many simultaneous assignments and quickly adapt to changes in business priorities.
  • Ability to quickly address issues and develop solutions to minimize compliance risk and maintain operability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with cross functional teams to achieve a common goal.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Knowledge of automation/control systems.
  • Experience with environmental (air, water, waste) permits and compliance reporting.
